Fibre composition and enzyme activities in six muscles of the Swedish reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus)

open access: yesRangifer, 1983
Six skeletal muscles have been studied as regards fibre properties and enzyme activities. The muscles are cranial part of M. gluteobiceps, M. semitendinosus, M. semimembranosus, M. longissimus dorsi, M. brachiocephalicus and M. sternocephalicus.

An Epigenetic Fate Converter Based on Nuclei‐Targeting Lipid Nanoparticles Drives Neuronal Programming of Stem Cells for Spinal Cord Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of LNP‐MPG nuclei‐targeting delivery of HMW‐FGF2 promoting histone acetylation to regulate the fate of DPSCs and treat spinal cord injury. LNPs components include pHMW‐FGF2 plasmid, DSPC, Dlin‐MC3‐DMA, cholesterol, and PEG2000, and are modified with MPG to form HMW‐FGF2@LNP‐MPG (HLM). HLM nuclei‐targets DPSCs to deliver HMW‐FGF2,

A hedgehog-like signal is involved in slow muscle differentation in Sepia officinalis (Mollusca)

open access: yesInvertebrate Survival Journal, 2007
In the tentacle of Sepia officinalis, smooth-like, helical and cross-striated fibres deriving from different populations of myoblasts are present. Myoblasts appear at different times during the development and express two muscle-specific transcription ...

Muscle fibre denervation in ageing

open access: yesClinical Science
Abstract Muscle fibre denervation describes the loss of effective neural input from a motor neuron to one or more muscle fibres. In ageing, denervation is increasingly recognised as an important contributor to progressive declines in muscle strength and functional capacity, yet it remains heterogeneous and difficult to define in ...

Fiber‐Based Wearable Electronics as Adaptive Biointerfaces for Healthcare Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fiber‐based wearable electronics have been extensively studied as adaptive healthcare biointerfaces. In this review, we classify and introduce fiber‐based systems according to biointerface design, conductive materials, transduction mechanisms, and healthcare applications, and provide a perspective on their translation toward reliable, continuous ...

Histochemical characterization of the red fibres in pigeon pectoralis muscle

open access: yes, 1978
Red fibres of the pigeon pectoralis muscle showed high ATPase reaction at pH 9.4. Veronal-acetate pretreatment completely inhibited the ATPase reaction in these red fibres but not in type I fibres of the gastrocnemius.

Guanosine‐Quadruplex Hydrogels as Dynamic, Mechanically Tunable and Ion Conductive 3D Scaffolds for Cell Culture Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Versatile guanosine‐quadruplex (GQ) hydrogels are developed as dynamic biomatrices for cell culture. These scaffolds are fabricated under mild aqueous conditions, present improved stability, tunable mechanical properties within physiological ranges; fibrillar, porous microstructure, ion conductivity, and cytocompatibility.

Effects of 2,3-butanedione monoxime on activation of contraction and crossbridge kinetics in intact and chemically skinned smooth muscle fibres from guinea pig taenia coli

open access: yes, 1993
The effects of 2,3-butanedione monoxime (BDM) were studied in smooth muscle fibres from guinea pig taenia coli. In intact muscle, active force during contractions induced by high-K+ was inhibited by about 10% in 1 mM BDM and by approximately 70% in 10 mM

Configuration‐Encoded Cell Alignment by Light‐Gated Silicon Photovoltaic Microcell Arrays

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light‐gated silicon photovoltaic microcells convert pulsed illumination into localized electrical cues. Arranging otherwise similar microcells into four‐lobed, six‐lobed, or circular patterns directs fibroblasts into corresponding local arrangements without wired stimulation.

Mathematical modelling of the half-sarcomere from a human skeletal muscle [PDF]

open access: yes
The character of the functional output of a motor unit within skeletal muscle has been linked experimentally to the proteins found in the sarcomere, the smallest contractile unit of muscle fibre.
