Influence of OH- concentration on the illitization of kaolinite at high pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The products of hydrothermal reactions of kaolinite at 300°C and 1000 bars were studied in KOH solutions covering an OH- concentration, [OH-], of 1M to 3.5M. XRD patterns indicated a notable influence of the [OH-] on the reaction.

Infinite charge mobility in muscovite at 300K [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Evidence is presented for infinite charge mobility in natural crystals of muscovite mica at room temperature. Muscovite has a basic layered structure containing a flat monatomic sheet of potassium sandwiched between mirror silicate layers.

Potassium at the Origins of Life: Did Biology Emerge from Biotite in Micaceous Clay?

open access: yesLife, 2022
Intracellular potassium concentrations, [K+], are high in all types of living cells, but the origins of this K+ are unknown. The simplest hypothesis is that life emerged in an environment that was high in K+.

Anomalously old biotite 40Ar/39Ar ages in the NW Himalaya [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Biotite 40Ar/39Ar ages older than corresponding muscovite 40Ar/39Ar ages, contrary to the diffusion properties of these minerals, are common in the Himalaya and other metamorphic regions.

Chemical zoning of muscovite megacrystal from the Brazilian Pegmatite Province

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2007
Macroscopically homogenous muscovite plate from the Cruzeiro pegmatite, located in the Eastern Pegmatite Province in Minas Gerais, may show complex distribution patterns of some trace elements. In geochronological and petrological studies, as for example

Dual-Energy Processing of X-ray Images of Beryl in Muscovite Obtained Using Pulsed X-ray Sources

open access: yesSensors, 2023
This paper presents the development of a method for dual-energy processing of X-ray images using pulsed X-ray sources for the contrast detection of beryl in muscovite mica in 2D X-ray and CT images.

Zircon dissolution in a ductile shear zone, Monte Rosa granite gneiss, northern Italy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The sizes, distributions and shapes of zircon grains within variably deformed granite gneiss from the western Alps have been studied. Zircon shows numerous indicators of a metamorphic response in both the host gneiss and a 5 cm wide continuous ductile ...

Garnet–monazite rare earth element relationships in sub-solidus metapelites: a case study from Bhutan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A key aim of modern metamorphic geochronology is to constrain precise and accurate rates and timescales of tectonic processes. One promising approach in amphibolite and granulite-facies rocks links the geochronological information recorded in zoned ...

Muscovite nanoparticles mitigate neuropathic pain by modulating the inflammatory response and neuroglial activation in the spinal cord

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2020
Despite numerous efforts to overcome neuropathic pain, various pharmacological drugs often fail to meet the needs and have many side effects. Muscovite is an aluminosilicate mineral that has been reported to have an anti-inflammatory effect, but the ...
