The improvement of early maturity red rice mutant trait for drought tolerance

open access: yesInternational Journal of Plant Biology, 2017
Accession of red rice does not have the traits of early maturity, drought tolerance and high yield. Mutation is needed to obtain the desired genetic resources.

Role of BacA in Lipopolysaccharide Synthesis, Peptide Transport, and Nodulation by \u3cem\u3eRhizobium\u3c/em\u3e sp. Strain NGR234 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
BacA of Sinorhizobium meliloti plays an essential role in the establishment of nitrogen-fixing symbioses with Medicago plants, where it is involved in peptide import and in the addition of very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA) to lipid A of ...

Oncogenic Gain of Function in Glioblastoma Is Linked to Mutant p53 Amyloid Oligomers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Tumor-associated p53 mutations endow cells with malignant phenotypes, including chemoresistance. Amyloid-like oligomers of mutant p53 transform this tumor suppressor into an oncogene.

The role of the Cucumber mosaic virus 2b protein in viral movement and symptom induction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) 2b protein is a counter-defense factor and symptom determinant. Conserved domains in the 2b protein sequence were mutated in the 2b gene of strain Fny-CMV.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

MYB and HD-ZIP IV homologs related to trichome formation are involved in epidermal bladder cell development in the halophyte Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L.

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2017
The common ice plant, Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L., a halophytic new functional leafy vegetable crop, develops epidermal bladder cells (EBCs) on the surfaces of its aerial organs.

Genetic Analysis and Fine Mapping of a Spontaneously Mutated Male Sterility Gene in Brassica rapa ssp. chinensis

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2020
Male sterility has been widely used in hybrid seed production in Brassica, but not in B. rapa ssp. chinensis, and genetic models of male sterility for this subspecies are unclear. We discovered a spontaneous mutant in B. rapa ssp. chinensis.

Nitrogen Fixation Mutants of the Actinobacterium Frankia Casuarinae CcI3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Frankia is a representative genus of nitrogen-fixing (N2-fixing) actinobacteria; however, the molecular mechanisms underlying various phenomena such as the differentiation of a N2 fixation-specific structure (vesicle) and the regulation of N2 fixation ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A dysflagellar mutant of Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis isolated from a cutaneous leishmaniasis patient

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2012
Background Parasites of the Leishmania genus alternate between the flagellated extracellular promastigote stage and intracellular amastigotes. Here we report the characterization of a Leishmania isolate, obtained from a cutaneous leishmaniasis patient ...
