An advanced dielectric continuum approach for treating solvation effects: Time correlation functions. I. Local treatment

open access: yes, 1998
A local continuum solvation theory, exactly treating electrostatic matching conditions on the boundary of a cavity occupied by a solute particle, is extended to cover time-dependent solvation phenomena.

Targeting transcription factors associated with hemoglobinopathies: Lessons from successful interventions and implications for cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the transcription factors, repressive chromatin‐modifying complexes, and epigenetic mechanisms that control fetal hemoglobin repression. Notably, many regulators of γ‐globin silencing also function in transcriptional and epigenetic networks that drive cancer, highlighting opportunities to translate advances in hemoglobinopathy ...

State-homomorphisms on $MV$-algebras [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
summary:Riečan [12] and Chovanec [1] investigated states in $MV$-algebras. Earlier, Riečan [11] had dealt with analogous ideas in $D$-posets. In the monograph of Riečan and Neubrunn [13] (Chapter 9) the notion of state is applied in the theory of ...

CEACAM1 participation in breast cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In invasive breast cancer (BC), CEACAM1 shifts from an apical to a uniform membranous/cytoplasmic pattern, or is lost, as tumors dedifferentiate, inversely tracking the Ki‐67 proliferative index. In MCF‐7 cells, only CEACAM1‐4L suppresses proliferation, repressing cell cycle and growth factor genes.

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

PANoptosis in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PANoptosis, a combination of three types of programmed cell death, is mediated by a large protein complex called a PANoptosome. In healthy bone marrow hematopoietic cells, PANoptosis is restricted by inhibitory signaling. In MDS, bone marrow cells become sensitive to the PANoptotic stimuli due to the aberrant inactivation of inhibitory signaling or ...

Directoids with sectionally antitone involutions and skew MV-algebras [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
summary:It is well-known that every MV-algebra is a distributive lattice with respect to the induced order. Replacing this lattice by the so-called directoid (introduced by J. Ježek and R.

Partial FAK suppression promotes tumor growth, an effect reversed by macrophage p110δ PI3K inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Partial inhibition of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) can paradoxically promote tumor growth, rather than simply producing a weaker antitumor effect than that observed with strong FAK suppression. In breast cancer and melanoma models, targeting p110δ PI3K, particularly in macrophages, counteracted these tumor‐promoting effects, highlighting the importance ...

On complete $MV$-algebras [PDF]

open access: yesCzechoslovak Mathematical Journal, 1995
An element \(x\) of an \(MV\)-algebra (also called a Wajsberg algebra) is called an \(\alpha\)-atom if the interval \([0,x ]\) is a chain of cardinality \(\alpha\). The algebra \(A\) is said to be \(\alpha\)-atomic if for every \(y\in A\setminus \{0\}\) there is an \(\alpha\)-atoms \(x\) such that \(x\leq y\).
