Disseminated Mycobacterium chelonae Infection Presenting as Progressive Multifocal Osteomyelitis: Report of Two Cases and a Review of the Literature

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1994
Two long term hospitalized patients developed disseminated infections caused by Mycobacterium chelonae, subspecies chelonae, over an eight-month period. In both cases, the disease was characterized by cutaneous and osseous involvement.

Multiple nontuberculous scrofulodermas showing dramatic response to clarithromycin

open access: yesIndian Dermatology Online Journal, 2015
Atypical mycobacteria are distinct from the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Mycobacterium chelonae, a non-pigment producing rapid grower, can be found in many cutaneous sites; infection occurs most commonly after skin trauma from surgery, injections, or ...

Disseminated cutaneous atypical mycobacteriosis by M. chelonae after sclerotherapy of varicose veins in a immunocompetent patient: a case report [PDF]

open access: yesAnais Brasileiros de Dermatologia, 2015
Atypical mycobacteria are saprophytic organisms not transmitted from person to person, which affect mainly immunosuppressed but also immunocompetent individuals.

Recurrent Mycobacterium chelonae Skin Infection Unmasked as Factitious Disorder Using Bacterial Whole Genome Sequence Analysis

open access: yesOpen Forum Infectious Diseases, 2020
Mycobacterium chelonae infections usually resolve with adequate therapy. We report the case of an adolescent with a chronic and progressive M chelonae infection refractory to combined antimicrobial and surgical therapy.

Temporal and Spatial Survey on the Abundance of Amoebae and Bacteria in an Estuary and the Role of Environmental Parameters

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2025.
Free‐living amoebae and bacteria were monitored along a salinity gradient over 1 year. Naegleria and Vibrio were the most represented genera, with salinity and dissolved oxygen identified as key factors structuring amoebae diversity and associated bacterial communities under changing environmental conditions.

Phage and Endolysin Therapy Against Antibiotics Resistant Bacteria: From Bench to Bedside

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 7, July 2025.
Synergistic effects of combining bacteriophages and antibiotics in antimicrobial therapy. The diagram illustrates key advantages of phage‐antibiotic synergy, including increased treatment effectiveness, reduced minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for drug‐resistant strains, enhanced biofilm eradication, and inhibition of resistant bacteria ...

Molecular Longitudinal Tracking of Mycobacterium abscessus spp. during Chronic Infection of the Human Lung [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The Mycobacterium abscessus complex is an emerging cause of chronic pulmonary infection in patients with underlying lung disease. The M. abscessus complex is regarded as an environmental pathogen but its molecular adaptation to the human lung during long-
