Rehabilitation in Transverse Myelitis

Continuum, 2011
The consequences of neurologic injuries related to transverse myelitis (TM) are long-lasting and require rehabilitative interventions in about two-thirds of cases. Because numerous neural repair mechanisms are dependent on maintenance of an optimal amount of activity both above and below the injury level, rehabilitation and exercise are useful not only

MRI of syphilitic myelitis

Neuroradiology, 1992
MR imaging was performed on a patient with syphilitic myelitis. T2-weighted images showed high intensity areas in the thoracic spinal cord. On T1-weighted images after gadolinium-DTPA injection, heterogeneous enhancement was observed in the superficial portion of the spinal cord. The intramedullary high intensity areas on T2-weighted images disappeared

Viral myelitis: An update

Current Neurology and Neuroscience Reports, 2006
Viral infections of the central nervous system are uncommon but are important in the differential diagnosis of acute myelopathy. Acute viral myelitis can present as acute flaccid paralysis (poliomyelitis) or neurologic dysfunction due to involvement of the white matter.

Relapsing transverse myelitis

Neurology, 1991
Acute transverse myelitis is a monophasic disorder, the recurrence of which raises the question of multiple sclerosis (MS) or other multifocal CNS disease. We now report three patients with a previously undescribed syndrome of relapsing isolated acute transverse myelitis.

Acute Flaccid Myelitis

Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, 2019
ABSTRACT Acute flaccid myelitis is a poliolike illness affecting mainly children, which seems to occur every 2 years in the late summer and early fall. The 2018 outbreak was alarming to parents and healthcare providers because the etiology is still under investigation and long-term outcomes are unclear.

The epidemiology of transverse myelitis

Autoimmunity Reviews, 2010
Transverse myelitis is a neurological disorder causing acute spinal cord injury as a result of acute inflammation, often associated with para infectious processes and autoimmune disease. The purpose of this article is to review the literature on the geoepidemiology of transverse myelitis and assess its environmental associations.

HERPES ZOSTER MYELITIS

Brain, 1991
We studied the clinical (10 patients) and pathological (9 patients) findings in 13 patients with herpes zoster myelitis, all of whom had systemic illnesses associated with immunosuppression. The median interval between the onset of the herpes zoster rash and myelopathic symptoms was 12 days, and the subsequent median interval to maximal deficit was 10 ...
