Calcium binding by a myeloma protein [PDF]

open access: possibleThe American Journal of Medicine, 1979
We describe a patient with immunoglobulin G (IgG)-kappa myeloma and severe, long-standing, asymptomatic hypercalcemia. Serum nonprotein-bound calcium concentration was 5.2 mg/dl (normal 4.2 to 5.0 mg/dl) at a time when total serum calcium concentration was 17.8 mg/dl.

Plasma cell myeloma with D-myeloma protein (IgD myeloma)

The American Journal of Medicine, 1968
Abstract Plasma cell myeloma distinguished by a serum D-myeloma protein has been found in many parts of the world and more than two dozen cases have been identified. Noteworthy observations are the high frequency (80 per cent) of D-myeloma protein with lambda-light chains (D-myeloma protein—type L) and the almost invariable presence of Bence Jones ...

Intraneuronal Accumulation of Myeloma Proteins

Archives of Neurology, 1985
We studied a patient with multiple myeloma who had immunologically identified myeloma light chain proteins within neurons projecting beyond the blood-brain barrier, but not within intrinsic neurons of the spinal cord, brain stem, and cerebral cortex. There was a possibility that these myeloma light chain proteins or their immunologically recognizable ...

On the structure of some myeloma proteins

Immunochemistry, 1969
Abstract Myeloma proteins are characterised by their electrophoretc homogeneity manifested by a sharp ‘myeloma band’ seen on pherograms. Extensive analytical work on amino acid seqeunce of these paraproteins has been reported [1–9]. HOwever, there seems to be no clear basis for differentiation between proteins synthesised by normal plasma cells and ...

Phosphate Binding by a Myeloma Protein

Acta Medica Scandinavica, 1987
ABSTRACT. A patient with IgG kappa myeloma had markedly elevated serum phosphate concentrations but no clinical features of hyperphosphataemia. The hyperphosphataemia was due to a high phosphate per protein unit than normal IgG.

A REACTION BETWEEN SOME STREPTOCOCCI AND IgA MYELOMA PROTEINS

, 2009
A reaction is described between some streptococci and IgA myeloma proteins; most streptococci showed low affinity for IgA myeloma proteins, with the exception of group A, type M 4 and two freshly isolated group A streptococci; they took up 40 to 50 per ...

Globulin and myeloma: The structural characterization of γ-globulin and myeloma protein

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1962
Abstract α-, β-, M - and γ-Type myeloma proteins were obtained by electrophoretic separation, and each protein was characterized by its amino acid composition, molecular weight, optical rotation, and infrared spectrum. The peculiar optical rotatory behavior of α-, β-, and γ-myeloma protein indicated that these proteins are to be classified as γ ...

Contribution of Inhibition of Protein Catabolism in Myeloma

The Cancer Journal, 2019
AbstractMultiple myeloma (MM) is a cancer of plasma cells, characterized by abundant synthesis of monoclonal immunoglobulins and/or free light chains. Although MM remains incurable, median overall survival has considerably improved over the past 2 decades largely due to the introduction of novel agents, including proteasome inhibitors (PIs) and ...

An unusual tryptic cleavage of a myeloma protein

Immunochemistry, 1978
Abstract Digestion of IgG† Zie with trypsin produced two fragments which differed from the characteristic tFab and tFc normally obtained from tryptic cleavage of IgG. These two unique fragments, designated t 1 and T s were isolated from a tryptic digest of IgG Zie by gel filtration in dissociating solvents.

A Calcium Binding IgG Myeloma Protein

Scandinavian Journal of Haematology, 1980
A calcium binding IgG was isolated and purified by column chromatography from serum of a myeloma patient with asymptomatic hypercalcaemia. The myeloma IgG, characterized as an IgG kappa, revealed a normal sized heavy chain (56000 dalton), and a light chain of 31000 dalton.
