Autophagy in cancer and protein conformational disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Autophagy plays a crucial role in numerous biological processes, including protein and organelle quality control, development, immunity, and metabolism. Hence, dysregulation or mutations in autophagy‐related genes have been implicated in a wide range of human diseases.

Knockdown of Linc00515 Inhibits Multiple Myeloma Autophagy and Chemoresistance by Upregulating miR-140-5p and Downregulating ATG14

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2018
Background/Aims: The purpose of our experiments was to investigate the targeting relationship of linc00515, miR-140-5p and ATG14 and to explore the roles of linc00515, miR-140-5p and ATG14 in autophagy and chemoresistance of melphalan-resistant multiple ...

IMMUNOLOGICAL RELATIONSHIPS AMONG THE MYELOMA PROTEINS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Experimental Medicine, 1955
An immunological study of 21 myeloma sera was carried out to determine their relationship to components of normal γ-globulin and to each other. Ten proteins were separated for detailed characterization. Every one of the myeloma proteins studied was immunologically different, indicating individual specificity.

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

Renal vein thrombosis, light-chain deposition disease and cast nephropathy in a multiple myeloma patient

open access: yesAutopsy and Case Reports, 2011
A 56-year-old woman presented with thoracic pain and dyspnea for 3 days. She had been under treatment for systemic arterial hypertension for 16 years. Laboratory investigation showed acute renal failure with indication for hemodialysis.

Segmentation of Multiple Myeloma Plasma Cells in Microscopy Images with Noisy Labels [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
A key component towards an improved and fast cancer diagnosis is the development of computer-assisted tools. In this article, we present the solution that won the SegPC-2021 competition for the segmentation of multiple myeloma plasma cells in microscopy images.

Protein Profiling in Myeloma In Vivo; Effects of Bortezomib in a Mouse Model of Myeloma.

open access: yesBlood, 2007
Abstract The proteasome inhibitor bortezomib (VELCADE®) represents an important advance in the treatment of multiple myeloma. Despite its very significant beneficial effects, its precise mechanism of action remains unclear. There is currently evidence to suggest that bortezomib has the potential to directly affect both myeloma cells and ...

THE CARBOHYDRATE OF γ-GLOBULIN AND MYELOMA PROTEINS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Experimental Medicine, 1956
Various preparations of γ-globulin homogeneous in the ultracentrifuge showed a similar content of hexose, hexosamine, fucose, and sialic acid. Subfractionation of Fr. II γ-globulin by zone electrophoresis revealed multiple components of different mean mobilities but containing similar amounts of carbohydrate.

Surfaceome: a new era in the discovery of immune evasion mechanisms of circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the era of immunotherapies, many patients either do not respond or eventually develop resistance. We propose to pave the way for proteomic analysis of surface‐expressed proteins called surfaceome, of circulating tumor cells. This approach seeks to identify immune evasion mechanisms and discover potential therapeutic targets. Circulating tumor cells (

Will Mass Spectrometry Replace Current Techniques for Both Routine Monitoring and MRD Detection in Multiple Myeloma?

open access: yesHemato, 2021
In recent years, mass spectrometry has been increasingly used for the detection of monoclonal proteins in serum. Mass spectrometry is more analytically sensitive than serum protein electrophoresis and immunofixation, can help distinguish therapeutic ...
