Engineered antibody‐like proteins block the SARS‐CoV‐2 spike protein from binding to host receptors and suppress immune overactivation through an MBL‐based scaffold. These dual‐function proteins effectively alleviate inflammation, complement activation, and lung injury, offering a promising therapeutic strategy against severe COVID‐19 and its ...

Myeloperoxidase oxidation states involved in myeloperoxidase-oxidase oxidation of thiols [PDF]
The changes in the oxidation state of the leucocyte enzyme myeloperoxidase, induced by buffer and thiols, were studied with visible-light-absorption spectroscopy. It was concluded that phosphate buffer contains small amounts of H2O2 and that thiols, when added to buffer, induce the generation of minute amounts of superoxide radical anion.

The Immune Microenvironment: New Therapeutic Implications in Organ Fibrosis
This review summarizes recent advances in understanding the immune microenvironment's role in fibrosis, focusing on phenotypic/functional alterations of immune cells and their dynamic interactions with other cellular constituents within tissues. The authors further explore therapeutic opportunities and challenges in targeting immune microenvironment ...

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is promoted by NETs that induce fibroblast activation. PEG‐PIm, a polymeric artificial DNase is reported that efficiently degrades NET‐DNA via phosphodiester bond hydrolysis. Inhalation of PEG‐PIm in a mouse PF model prevents fibroblast activation and fibrosis progression, offering a promising therapeutic strategy for NET ...

Rapid fluorescence and lateral flow assays were developed for methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (SA) by combining a DNA aptamer for selective isolation and an RNA‐cleaving DNAzyme for detection of MRSA. Abstract Accurate and convenient detection of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) plays a vital role in determining ...

Estradiol as an antioxidant: incompatible with its physiological concentrations and function
Estradiol has been documented to inhibit the oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL). We show that physiological concentrations of estradiol do not inhibit the oxidation of LDL by copper.
