Obstruction of Bowel due to Lesion in the Myenteric Plexus [PDF]
Two patients are described who were found to have a destructive lesion of the myenteric plexus. In one the upper small intestine was involved and the clinical picture was of recurrent pseudo-obstruction; in the other the lesion was in the distal colon and resulted in intractable constipation.

The κ opioid receptor (κ receptor, KOR) is a G protein‐coupled receptor with well established roles in analgesia and immune modulation. Although historically studied primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), growing evidence indicates that κ signalling in peripheral tissues plays an important role in regulating pain, inflammation and immune ...

Myenteric plexus abnormalities associated with epiphrenic diverticula☆ [PDF]
To (1) categorize histologic esophageal myenteric plexus abnormalities in patients undergoing surgical treatment for epiphrenic diverticulum, and (2) correlate histologic changes with associated esophageal motility disorders and hiatal hernia. From January 1987 to May 2008, 40 patients had surgery for epiphrenic diverticulum.

Beta-3 Adrenoceptor Agonism Protects the Enteric Nervous Tissue Against Hyperoxia-Induced Damage
The beta-3 adrenergic receptor (β3-AR), whose expression is modulated by oxygen levels, was found to play a key role in organ maturation, and its agonism was reported to mitigate hyperoxia-induced large bowel damage by preventing organ hypoplasia ...

Purinergic signalling is remarkably plastic during gastrointestinal inflammation. Thus, selective drugs targeting the “purinome” may be helpful for inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases. The myenteric neuromuscular transmission of healthy individuals is

Prenatal intestinal obstruction affects the myenteric plexus and causes functional bowel impairment in fetal rat experimental model of intestinal atresia. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Intestinal atresia is a rare congenital disorder with an incidence of 3/10,000 birth. About one-third of patients have severe intestinal dysfunction after surgical repair. We examined whether prenatal gastrointestinal obstruction might effect

Evaluating integrative strategies for incorporating phenotypic features in spatial transcriptomics
Abstract The key advantage of spatial transcriptomics (ST) technologies lies in the spatial domain: these techniques not only offer an unprecedented opportunity to interrogate intact biological samples in a spatially informed manner, but also set the stage for integration with other imaging‐based modalities.

Mechanisms regulating somatostatin release and somatostatin-induced acetylcholine release from the myenteric plexus [PDF]
The present studies were performed to characterize the molecular form(s) of somatostatin present in the myenteric plexus and to examine some aspects of the regulatory mechanisms underlying somatostatin release and somatostatin-induced release of ...

p‐STAT3‐positive cells in metabolically relevant peripheral organs and tissues from mice administered with recombinant CNTF (0.3 mg/kg). Abstract Administration of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) reduces food intake and body weight in both humans and experimental animals, where it also ameliorates hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and dyslipidemia ...
