Comparative Genomics and Functional Evidence for Convergent Adaptation to Hypoxia in Mammals

This study reveals convergent selection in mammals adapted to hypoxia. Functional assays demonstrate that amino acid mutations reduce oxidative stress, attenuate hypoxia‐induced injury, and modulate the hypoxia‐inducible transcription factor (HIF)‐driven hypoxic response.

Evaluating high‐sensitivity troponin levels in people with sickle cell disease in the emergency department

British Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
This study shows that sickle cell disease patients have elevated high‐sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs‐cTnI) that is not considered clinically significant but are outside of the normal range. Elevated hs‐cTnI was associated with low haemoglobin and a history of heart failure.

Abstract We recently reported the deposition of Aβ in the frontal cortex of individuals who died of acute coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19), or who did not have COVID‐19 but had respiratory distress, or infants with severe cardiac malformations.
