Association between triglyceride levels and hypertension in patients with coronary artery disease undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: a retrospective cross-sectional study

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
BackgroundThis study aimed to investigate the association between serum triglyceride (TG) levels and the presence of hypertension in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and hypertension undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI ...

Myocardial protection by insulin at reperfusion requires early administration and is mediated via Akt and p70s6 kinase cell-survival signaling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The "metabolic cocktail" comprising glucose-insulin-potassium administrated at reperfusion reduces infarct size in the in vivo rat heart. We propose that insulin is the major component mediating this protection and acts via Akt prosurvival signaling ...

Confocal laser scanning microscope, raman microscopy and western blotting to evaluate inflammatory response after myocardial infarction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cardiac muscle necrosis is associated with inflammatory cascade that clears the infarct from dead cells and matrix debris, and then replaces the damaged tissue with scar, through three overlapping phases: the inflammatory phase, the proliferative phase

Magnetic Micro‐ and Nanorobots for Precision Thrombolysis: Design Strategies and Translational Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Micro‐ and nanorobots for targeted thrombolysis. This perspective elaborates on the clinical indication of blood clot disorders and current limitations for treatment. As a novel, alternative solution, micro‐ and nanorobots can be used to treat and break down thrombi.

DNMT1 deficiency promotes pulmonary vascular remodeling in pulmonary hypertension through epigenetic upregulation of BMP7

open access: yesRespiratory Research
Background Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a progressive cardiopulmonary disorder marked by pathological vascular remodeling, predominantly driven by the hyperproliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs).

Association between plaque characteristics and side-branch compromise in left main bifurcation lesions after a single-stent crossover technique: insights from an optical coherence tomography study

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
BackgroundThe primary mechanism underlying side branch (SB) ostial compromise following main vessel (MV) stenting is the MV carina shift. However, the association between plaque characteristics or distribution and SB compromise remains unclear in ...

Stable coronary syndromes: pathophysiology, diagnostic advances and therapeutic need [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The diagnostic management of patients with angina pectoris typically centres on the detection of obstructive epicardial CAD, which aligns with evidence-based treatment options that include medical therapy and myocardial revascularisation.

ELABELA Targets Mitochondria to Modulate Heart Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The role of peptide ELABELA (ELA) in cardiomyocyte apoptosis and congenital heart disease (CHD) is unclear. ELA deficiency caused cardiomyocyte apoptosis and CHD. A novel ELA‐APJ‐AKT‐BCL2/BAX axis in regulating mitochondrial function and contributing to CHD pathogenesis was established.

Postoperative Stress Accelerates Atherosclerosis Through Inflammatory Remodeling of the HDL Proteome and Impaired Reverse Cholesterol Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study shows that noncardiac surgical inflammation rapidly disrupts HDL function and cholesterol efflux in mice and human patients. Impaired reverse cholesterol transport after surgery drives rapid lipid accumulation, NETosis, and apoptosis within atherosclerotic plaques.
