A Soft Robotic Model for Simulating Heart Valve Disease and Cardiac Interventions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This paper introduces a fully synthetic fabrication methodology for a soft robotic, in‐vitro model of the left‐heart, complete with a functioning mitral valve apparatus. With a view towards patient‐specific modeling, we demonstrate physiological flow and pressure waveforms, tunable mitral valve function with clinical imaging compatibility, and its use ...

Hepatocyte BDNF Acts as a Novel Immune Checkpoint to Restrain TLR4‐Mediated Acute Hepatitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies hepatocyte‐derived BDNF as an endogenous TLR4 antagonist that alleviates acute hepatitis. BDNF is downregulated in hepatocytes via REST‐mediated transcriptional repression during ALI/ALF. Mechanistically, BDNF binds to TLR4 on macrophages to suppress inflammation.

P2Y12Receptor Blockade and Myocardial Perfusion

open access: yesJACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, 2013
The major goal of percutaneous coronary revascularization is the establishment of durable myocardial perfusion. In the setting of acute coronary syndromes (ACS), there is target lesion instability largely caused by a local and systemic prothrombotic milieu.

Intramyocardial hemorrhage: An enigma for cardiac MRI? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is a useful noninvasive technique for determining the presence of microvascular obstruction (MVO) and intramyocardial hemorrhage (IMH), frequently occurring in patients after reperfused myocardial infarction (MI ...

Bench‐to‐Bedside Translation of Self‐Healing Colloidal Hydrogels as Next Generation Design of Flowable Hemostatic Matrix: From Preclinical Evaluation to Human Clinical Trials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Self‐healing materials represent a paradigm shift in designing functional biomedical devices for drug delivery, tissue regeneration, and 3D bioprinting. However, their clinical translation remains limited by challenges such as insufficient mechanical strength, potential cytotoxicity from chemical modifications, and complex activation ...

Variants of myocardial perfusion at rest, and their clinical assessment in patients with arterial hypertension and coronary heart disease

open access: yesРоссийский кардиологический журнал, 2004
In patients with isolated arterial hypertension (AH) (n = 50), isolated coronary heart disease (CHD) (n = 16), and combination of AH and CHD (n = 43), myocardial perfusion at rest, and its correlation with myocardial function was investigated.

High fat diet-induced glucose intolerance impairs myocardial function, but not myocardial perfusion during hyperaemia: a pilot study

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2012
Background Glucose intolerance is a major health problem and is associated with increased risk of progression to type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease.

Myocardial damage size assessment in the zone of infarction for indicating rescue percutaneous coronary intervention [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2008
Background. The most important predictors of subsequent patients outcome after acute myocardial infarction (AIM) are infarct size, left ventricular ejection fraction, left ventricular volumes and presence and extent of residual myocardial ischemia.

Assessment of poststress left ventricular ejection fraction by gated SPECT: comparison with equilibrium radionuclide angiocardiography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
PURPOSE: We compared left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction obtained by gated SPECT with that obtained by equilibrium radionuclide angiocardiography in a large cohort of patients.

Deep learning analysis of the myocardium in coronary CT angiography for identification of patients with functionally significant coronary artery stenosis

open access: yes, 2017
In patients with coronary artery stenoses of intermediate severity, the functional significance needs to be determined. Fractional flow reserve (FFR) measurement, performed during invasive coronary angiography (ICA), is most often used in clinical ...
