MG53 Coordinates Macrophage Polarization and Neuroimmune Coupling to Promote Corneal Nerve Regeneration via the MPEG1–MVP–STAT6 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Corneal nerve regeneration is critical to corneal wound healing processes. The current study reveals a novel role of MG53 in promoting corneal nerve regeneration after alkali induced injury. Mechanistically, MG53 enters macrophages via its receptor, MPEG1, promotes MVP K63 ubiquitination, and triggers STAT6 induced repair‐related genes expression ...

Biomimetic Bone Marrow Monocyte Membrane‐Fused Extracellular Vesicles for Targeted Therapy of Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a biomimetic delivery system (M‐hEV) by fusing monocyte membranes with extracellular vesicles for targeted therapy of damaged cardiac tissue. The system homes to injured myocardium through specific molecular pathways. In a myocardial infarction model, M‐hEV effectively accumulates in the heart, reduces infarct size, alleviates ...

Caveolin‐1 Stabilizes SERCA2 to Counteract Acute Kidney Injury via Suppression of Ca2+‐Dependent Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Distal Tubules

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In AKI, initial kidney injury upregulates the expression of Cav‐1, which subsequently binds to and stabilizes SERCA2 via its scaffolding domain and through deubiquitination, thereby regulating Ca2+ homeostasis and ER stress. Conversely, Cav‐1 deficiency accelerates SERCA2 degradation, triggering Ca2+ overload and ER stress, and ultimately exacerbating ...

Myocardial Protection with Simultaneous Antegrade/Vein Graft Cardioplegia Compared to Antegrade Cardioplegia Alone in Elective Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Patients

open access: yesBalkan Medical Journal, 2011
Objective: Cardioplegia distribution beyond a stenotic coronary artery may not be adequate. This problem can be overcome by direct delivery of cardioplegia via the vein grafts anastomosed during the operation.

A Viscous DES‐AAV‐Foxo1 Delivery System With High Transfection Efficiency for the Treatment of Corneal Endothelial Dysfunction by Restoring Mitochondria‐ER Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High glucose triggers corneal endothelial dysfunction by impairing FOXO1‐mediated ITPR1 transcription, leading to disrupted mitochondria‐associated membrane (MAM) integrity and defective ER‐to‐mitochondria Ca2+ transfer. This study develops an innovative viscous DES‐AAV‐Foxo1 delivery system with enhanced transfection efficiency. This non‐invasive gene

Ventricular Mass Index as a Reliable Method to Calculate Cardioplegia Volume [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cardio-Thoracic Medicine
Introduction:  In cardiac surgery is essential protect myocardial tissue during cardiac arrest to perform the surgical procedure. The Cardioplegic solution has showed significant efficacy for myocardial protection by providing buffer mediators.

Myocardial protection: a forgotten modality [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 2019
SummaryThe goals of a cardiac surgical procedure are both technical excellence and complete protection of cardiac function. Cardioplegia is used almost universally to protect the heart and provide a quiet bloodless field for surgical accuracy. Yet, despite the importance of myocardial protection in cardiac surgery, manuscripts or dedicated sessions at ...

On perhexiline and its application to myocardial protection during cardiac surgery

open access: yes, 2012
Perhexiline is an anti-anginal drug that is thought to shift myocardial metabolism from \(\beta\)-oxidation of fatty acids to glucose utilisation. An associated improvement in energy efficiency may be beneficial in ischaemia-reperfusion as an adjunct to ...

Integrated Single‐Cell and Spatial Analysis Reveals a Metabolic‐Immune Axis Driving Aortic Dissection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single‐cell and spatial profiling of 110 human thoracic aortic samples reveals a stromal–immune circuit driving aortic dissection. An elastin‐rich fibroblast subset is depleted with age and markedly reduced in disease, weakening aortic wall integrity.

CK2α Deficiency Drives Myocardial Fibrosis via Desmin‐Induced Mitochondrial Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CK2α preserves mitochondrial homeostasis by phosphorylating Desmin to recruit Cryab, ensuring proper filament assembly. CK2α deficiency disrupts this interaction, causing mitochondrial dysfunction, metabolic shifts, bioenergetic failure, and oxidative stress—ultimately establishing a pro‐fibrotic environment that drives cardiac fibrosis.
