Excimer laser surgery for myopia and myopic astigmatism [PDF]

open access: bronzeAustralian and New Zealand Journal of Ophthalmology, 1995
AbstractPhotorefractive keratectomy using the Summit Excimer Laser has been carried out on 1333 eyes with myopia or myopic astigmatism which have been followed up for six months or longer. Of those, 607 have been followed up for one year.Of the eyes with myopia or myopic astigmatism of up to 3 dioptres spherical equivalent, at one year 85.6% had ...

Myopic astigmatism and presbyopia trial

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2003
No prospective double-masked study has evaluated whether low astigmatism benefits or harms patients with presbyopia, whose intermediate and near vision might theoretically benefit from enhanced depth of focus provided by astigmatism. The purpose of the first Myopic Astigmatism and Presbyopia (MAP I) study was to determine whether low myopic astigmatism

Astigmatic Keratotomy Combined With Myopic Keratomileusis In Situ for Compound Myopic Astigmatism

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1996
Myopic keratomileusis in situ by an automated microkeratome corrects myopia but not astigmatism, which is traditionally corrected by astigmatic keratotomy months after keratomileusis. We developed a technique for simultaneously correcting astigmatism and severe myopia, and examined its effectiveness in a retrospective case-control study.Thirty-four ...

Excimer laser correction of myopic astigmatism

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1994
The excimer laser allows the controlled ablation of corneal tissue to correct refractive error. By using a combination of spherical and slit apertures, it is possible to correct both myopia and astigmatism. We report the results of 139 consecutive eyes that had photoastigmatic refractive keratectomy (PARK) for myopic astigmatism (myopia < or = -15.00 ...

Correcting simple myopic astigmatism with the excimer laser

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1995
For one year we followed 46 eyes that had photoastigmatic refractive keratectomy with an excimer laser to correct simple myopic astigmatism. Mean preoperative cylinder was -2.50 +/- 0.70 diopters (D); mean preoperative best corrected visual acuity was 20/25 +/- 1 Snellen line.

Endophthalmitis after astigmatic myopic laser in situ keratomileusis

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1997
A 36-year-old woman had uneventful astigmatic myopic laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) to correct -12.00 -1.50 x 70. Three days later, she developed a corneal abscess, hypopyon, and an intense vitreous cellular reaction-endophthalmitis. The patient was immediately given intravenous ciprofloxacin and topical vancomycin and ceftazidime.
