Worsening versus advanced heart failure: Management and challenges

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Clinical feature, circulating biomarkers and therapeutic management of patients with WHF versus AdvHF. Abbreviations: AdvHF, advanced heart failure; HF, heart failure; HTx, heart transplant; GDMT, guideline‐directed medical therapy; MCS, mechanical circulatory support; NYHA, New York Heart Association; WHF, worsening heart failure.

Cardioimmunologic response patterns after an acute heart failure event: Design and first results of AHF‐ImmunoCS

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims We have previously shown that patients who develop heart‐reactive antibodies (HRAs) de novo after a heart failure (HF) hospitalization are at increased risk of adverse outcomes, lending weight to the hypothesis that B cells may play a pivotal role in HF progression.

Atrial cardiomyopathy: From healthy atria to atrial failure. A clinical consensus statement of the Heart Failure Association of the ESC

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
The diagnosis of atrial cardiomyopathy (AtCM) requires electrical atrial dysfunction, with evidence of either mechanical atrial dysfunction, atrial enlargement, or excessive atrial fibrosis. The diagnostic cut‐points presented are for standard electrocardiogram and echocardiogram studies (see Figure 1 for further detail).

Ferric derisomaltose augments intrinsic skeletal muscle electron transport chain activity in heart failure: A FERRIC‐HF II molecular substudy

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
FERRIC‐HF II molecular substudy. FDI, ferric derisomaltose. Aims Skeletal muscle energetic augmentation might be a mechanism via which intravenous iron improves symptoms in heart failure, but no direct measurement of intrinsic mitochondrial function has been performed to support this notion.

An Anisotropic and Stable‐Conductance Patch for Mechanical–Electrical Coupling With Infarcted Myocardium

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
Inspired by the hierarchical structures of native myocardium, an anisotropic and conductance‐stable myocardial patch is designed. The patch, which aligns with the native tissue's anisotropic characteristics is engineered to provide infarcted myocardium with directionally electrical conduction and anisotropic mechanical support, achieving mechanical ...
