In this present review work, nutmeg and mace from Myristica fragrans Houtt. were elaborated associated with their risks in use. Nutmeg, as a spice and medicinal preparation, is known and documented to be used as a carminative, expectorant, and analgesic and also used in infants.

The structure of macelignan from Myristica fragrans

Abstract A new lignan, macelignan, isolated from the arils of Myristica fragrans , is shown to have the structure (2 R ,3 S )-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-2,3-dimethyl-4-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-butane by spectral analysis, chemical conversion and X-ray crystallographic analysis.

Myristica Fragrans Houtt.

Myristica fragrans Houtt. is an evergreen tree that grows in humid areas. The tree is native to the Indonesian Maluku Islands, and over time, it began to be grown in different parts of the world. It has dark green leaves, yellow and bell-shaped flowers, and drupe fruit with a dark brown seed and red aril.

[Direct identification of Myristica fragrans and Myristica sp. by FTIR].

To directly and accurately identify Myristica fragrans and Myristica sp.Fourier transform infrare(FTIR) spectrum method was used.There were obvious differences between the FTIR spectrums of above-mentioned plants.Myristica fragrans and Myristica sp. were identificated by FTIR directly, fast and accurately.
