Myxozoans are economically important cnidarian endoparasites. Members of this group have been traditionally characterized by a morphology-based taxonomic system. Because myxozoans possess few morphological characters, these data are routinely accompanied by biological traits (host/organ/tissue specificity) and molecular data when describing or ...

Myxobolus sp: a possible new opportunistic parasite in immunocompromized patients in Ismailia.
Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology, 2005During a study on intestinal parasitic infections in immunocompromized patients complaining of diarrhoea, a parasite belonging to the Phylum Myxozoa described from human samples was identified in three stool samples out of eleven. The highly repetitive genome of Myxobolus sp., a myxozoan parasite of fathead minnows
Background: The Myxozoa is a group of at least 2,400 endoparasites within the phylum Cnidaria. All myxozoans have greatly reduced in size and morphology compared to free-living members of the phylum. They are best known for causing disease in economically important fish across the world; for example, Myxobolus cerebralis causes Whirling Disease, which ...Viraj R. Muthye +5 more

Cystic liver disease caused by Myxobolus sp. in goldfish (Carassius auratus)
