The demise of Leptotheca Thélohan, 1895 (Myxozoa: Myxosporea: Ceratomyxidae) and assignment of its species to Ceratomyxa Thélohan, 1892 (Myxosporea: Ceratomyxidae), Ellipsomyxa Køie, 2003 (Myxosporea: Ceratomyxidae), Myxobolus Bütschli, 1882 and Sphaerospora Thélohan, 1892 (Myxosporea: Sphaerosporidae)

Systematic Parasitology, 2010
A revision of Leptotheca Thélohan, 1895 is presented. The boundaries that separate Leptotheca from Ceratomyxa Thélohan, 1892 and Sphaerospora Thélohan, 1892 are vague and have been highlighted as an area of concern within myxosporean classification. A survey of the literature revealed 63 species that are currently assigned to Leptotheca and a further ...

Redescription of Myxobolus pyramidis Chen, 1958(Myxosporea: Bivalvulida)

Parasitology Research, 2006
Redescription of Myxobolus pyramidis Chen, 1958, from gill lamellae of allogynogenetic gibel carp, Carassius auratus gibelio (Bloch), is presented in this paper to complete Chen's description. The diagnostic characters of the myxosporidia are: ovoid round, greyish-white polysporous plasmodia, averaging (159+/-21)x(72+/-6.5) mum in size; spore pyriform ...

A new species of Myxobolus (Cnidaria: Myxosporea: Myxobolidae) from the gibel carp Carassius gibelio (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae).

Diseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2023
Myxobolus zhaltsanovae n. sp., is described from the gills of gibel carp Carassius gibelio found during a survey of myxozoans from the watershed of Lake Baikal, Russia, based on morphological and molecular characterizations. Plasmodia of M.

Morphological, histological and phylogenetic identification of three species of Myxobolus (Myxosporea: Myxobolidae) infecting different carp lineages in China.

Journal of Fish Diseases, 2023
The global cultivation of common carp Cyprinus carpio is developed primarily for either food or recreational purposes and myxosporean infections causing significant economic losses are regularly troublesome for carp farmers.

Sporogenesis and spore structure in Kudoa lunata (Myxosporea, Multivalvulida)

Parasitology Research, 1988
The multivalvulid myxosporean Kudoa lunata Lom, Dyková and Lhotáková, 1983 forms large polysporic trophozoites within the myocytes of scaldfish, Arnoglossus imperialis and A. laterna. The spores arise by the division of generative cells that produce a number of sporogonic cells necessary to complete a sporoblast.

Taxonomy and phylogeny of Myxobolus branchiostegi sp. nov. (Myxozoa, Myxosporea) infecting the gallbladder of Branchiostegus argentatus Cuvier, 1830 from the East China Sea

Zoosystematics and Evolution
Myxobolus branchiostegi sp. nov. was detected in the gallbladder of six out of 28 specimens (21.4%) of Branchiostegus argentatus Cuvier, 1830 from the East China Sea. This is the first record of a Myxobolus species infecting this host.

Synopsis of the species of Myxobolus Bütschli, 1882 (Myxozoa: Myxosporea: Myxobolidae)

Systematic Parasitology, 2005
A synopsis of 744 nominal species of Myxobolus Butschli, 1882 (Myxozoa, Myxosporea, Myxobolidae) is presented. For each species, the relevant morphometric and morphological data are indicated, as well as the host(s), site(s) of infection within the host and type-locality.
