Morphometric and molecular characterization of Kudoa encrasicoli n. sp. (Myxozoa: Myxosporea) from the European anchovy, Engraulis encrasicolus (L.) (Clupeiformes: Engraulidae)

open access: yesSystematic Parasitology, 2022
The European anchovy represents the main fisheries for countries in the Mediterranean and Black Sea basins. The skeletal muscle of 13 of 48 (27.1%) Engraulis encrasicolus (L.) specimens from North East Atlantic waters (FAO 27.8.c) was found infected with

SSU rDNA analysis of Kudoa rosenbuschi (Myxosporea) from the Argentinean hake Merluccius hubbsi [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2005
The cloning and sequencing of the small subunit (SSU) ribosomal DNA gene from Kudoa rosenbuschi (myxosporean species associated with post-mortem myoliquefaction process in the Argentinean hake Merluccius hubbsi) is reported. The SSU rDNA was found to contain 1740 bp with a single polymorphic site with either a C or T at position 221.

Fish Sludge as Feed in Circular Bioproduction: Overview of Biological and Chemical Hazards in Fish Sludge and Their Potential Fate via Ingestion by Invertebrates

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2025.
This review provides knowledge of the biosecurity risks of using fish sludge to produce novel feed ingredients from low‐trophic, extractive animal species in circular value chains. The review includes nutritional composition, sludge treatment practices, EU regulations, and the fate of microbial and chemical hazards contained in sludge till raw ...

Unclear host taxonomy hinders parasite studies: An up‐to‐date checklist of the protozoan and metazoan parasites of Phoxinus minnows (Teleostei: Leuciscidae)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 105, Issue 6, Page 1501-1539, December 2024.
Abstract Phoxinus minnows are small freshwater fish found throughout Eurasia. The taxonomy of this genus is still under investigation, and new species are regularly described. They are frequently introduced outside their native range due to their use as live bait for angling, and such fish introductions can have diverse impacts on the recipient areas ...

Studies On The Morphology Of Thelohanellus Sp., And The Effects Of Water Quality And Rainfall On Its Prevalence In Puntius Gonionotus (Bleeker) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
A myxosporean parasite belonging to the genus Thelohanellus, Kudo 1933 found infecting the gills of lampam jawa Puntius gonionotus (Bleeker), was studied.

Communities of metazoan parasites in seven sympatric skate species (Elasmobranchii, Rajidae) from the English Channel and Celtic Sea differing in conservation status

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 105, Issue 3, Page 975-987, September 2024.
Abstract Elasmobranch populations are in steep decline mainly due to overfishing bycatch, but parasites may accelerate the collapse of vulnerable and/or highly parasitized species. We therefore studied metazoan parasites of Rajidae from the northeast Atlantic: vulnerable Leucoraja fullonica, near‐threatened Raja brachyura, Raja clavata, Raja ...

Kudoa spp. (Myxozoa, Multivalvulida) parasitizing fish caught in Aracaju, Sergipe, Brazil

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária
This study reports on Kudoa spp. (Myxozoa, Multivalvulida) from the fish species Lutjanus analis, Bagre marinus, Aspistor luniscutis and Lutjanus jocu, which were caught in Aracaju, state of Sergipe, Brazil. The parasites formed oval plasmodia around the

Specific IgE induced by Kudoa sp. (Myxosporea: multivalvulida) antigens in BALB/c mice

open access: yesParasite, 2003
The majority of Kudoa species infect the somatic muscle of fish establishing cysts. As there is no effective method to delect infected fish without destroying them, these parasited fish reach the consumer. We have developed this work to determine whether
