n-Hexane induces Parkinsonism in rodents

Brain Research, 1990
A case of human parkinsonism, due to n-hexane exposure, was recently described. On the basis of this observation, we treated mice and rats with n-hexane and its principle toxic metabolite 2,5-hexanedione. The mice underwent a chronic treatment intraperitoneum, the rats were treated stereotaxically into the substantia nigra.

Effect of hexanal vapor on the growth of postharvest pathogens and fruit decay.

Journal of Food Science, 2007
The effect of the natural volatile hexanal was studied as an antifungal agent on the major postharvest fungal pathogens Botrytis cinerea, Monilinia fructicola, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Alternaria alternata, and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides.

Magnetic solid-phase extraction followed by high performance liquid chromatography for determination of hexanal and heptanal in human urine

, 2011
In this work, a new magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) method based on C8-amine-Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) was developed for the determination of aldehyde biomarkers (hexanal and heptanal) in human urine samples.

Development of a novel monolith frit-based solid-phase microextraction method for determination of hexanal and heptanal in human serum samples.

Journal of Separation Science, 2012
In this paper, a polypropylene frit with porous network structure and high area-to-thickness ratio (4.8 mm diameter, 1.6 mm thickness, 20 mm pore size) was utilized as a mould of monolith. Poly(methacrylic acid-ethlyene glycol dimethacrylate) (MAA-EGDMA)

Application of hexanal, E-2-hexenal, and hexyl acetate to improve the safety of fresh-sliced apples.

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2003
The aims of this work were to evaluate the effects of different concentrations of hexanal, (E)-2-hexenal, hexyl acetate, and their mixtures on the fate of pathogenic species such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteritidis, and Listeria monocytogenes ...

Particles and pulses in n-hexane

Journal of Electrostatics, 1979
Abstract By experimental observation the persistent controversy about the order of charge carried by minute natural particles in a liquid dielectric is resolved. The work reported earlier has been extended, by use of the on-line transient recorder in a dual channel mode, to provide a clear demonstration that the fempto-Coulomb pulses of conduction ...

n-Hexane Polyneuropathy in Japan: A Review of n-Hexane Poisoning and Its Preventive Measures

Environmental Research, 1993
n-Hexane is used in industry as a solvent for adhesive, dry cleaning, and vegetable oil extraction. In 1963, the first case of severe polyneuropathy suspected to be caused by n-hexane was referred to us. Case studies, animal experiments, and field surveys on n-hexane poisoning were conducted, and preventive measures like threshold limit value revision ...

Study of peptides containing modified lysine residues by tandem mass spectrometry: precursor ion scanning of hexanal-modified peptides.

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, 2004
Upon hexanal-modification in the presence of NaCNBH(3), the oxidized B chain of insulin becomes mono- and further dialkylated on both the N-terminal and Lys(29) residues.

Electric Breakdown in n-Hexane

Nature, 1965
ALTHOUGH the phenomena of breakdown and conduction in liquid insulants have received considerable attention, the degree of understanding that has been achieved is limited, a fact illustrated by the co-existence of several widely differing models for the breakdown process. The main reasons for this failure are the absence of a satisfactory theory of the

Diffusion of n-Hexane in Polyethylenes

International Journal of Polymeric Materials and Polymeric Biomaterials, 1998
Abstract The diffusion coefficients of n-Hexane in two compositions of Polyethylene were estimated as function of temperature, concentration and film thickness.
