Differences in results from in vivo and in vitro studies on the use-dependency of N-methylaspartate antagonism by MK-801 and other phencyclidine receptor ligands

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1988
We have used microelectrophoretic and intravenous administration of drugs to rat spinal cord neurones in vivo and bath application to rat cortical wedges in vitro to evaluate MK-801 and other phencyclidine (PCP) receptor ligands as N-methylaspartate (NMA) antagonists, paying particular regard to the possible use-dependent nature of their action. MK-801,

Comparison of responses to transmitter candidates at an N-methylaspartate receptor mediated synapse, in slices of rat cerebral cortex

Neuroscience, 1986
Intracellular recordings from pyramidal neurones in isolated slices of rat cerebral cortex allowed a comparison of postsynaptic potentials and responses to electrophoretic application of excitatory amino acids. The responses of all neurones to N-methylaspartate displayed an unusual voltage relation and were associated with an apparent increase in ...

N‐Methylaspartate‐Evoked Liberation of Taurine and Phosphoethanolamine In Vivo: Site of Release

Journal of Neurochemistry, 1985
Abstract: The effect of N‐methyl‐d,l‐aspartic acid (NMA) on extracellular amino acids was studied in the rabbit hippocampus with the brain dialysis technique. Administration of 0.5 or 5 mM NMA caused a concentration‐dependent liberation of taurine and phosphoethanolamine (PEA).

Anti-N-methylaspartate receptor encephalitis in a young child: a case report

2013
Introduction. Anti-N-methylaspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is a recently identified synaptic autoimmune disorder that is increasingly recognized. It can occur at any age with children representing about 40% of all cases. Case. A previously healthy 2 years old boy had a fever one week be fore the first neurological symptoms.

The relative potencies of (−)-2-amino-5-phosphonovalerate and (−)-2-amino-7-phosphonoheptanoate as antagonists of N-methylaspartate and quinolinic acids and repetitive spikes in rat hippocampal slices

Brain Research, 1986
The active (-)-isomers of 2-amino-7-phosphonoheptanoic acid (2-APH) and 2-amino-5-phosphonopentanoic acid (2-APV) have been compared as antagonists of N-methyl-D,L-aspartate (NMDLA) and quinolinic acid on rat hippocampal slices. 2-APH appeared to be about 3 times more potent than 2-APV, though the same ratio was obtained against NMDLA and quinolinic ...
