NADPH oxidases: Current aspects and tools

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2020
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been shown or at least suggested to play an essential role for cellular signaling as second messengers. NADPH oxidases represent a source of controlled ROS formation. Accordingly, understanding the role of individual NADPH oxidases bears potential to interfere with intracellular signaling cascades without disturbing ...

Tannin: An Insight into its Cosmeceutical Properties and Uses

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, EarlyView.
Filling a gap in the literature, this study identifies the emerging uses of tannin as cosmeceutical ingredient in skin and hair care products. The account offers also a green chemistry, health and economic perspective on future developments concerning the use of tannins in cosmetic products widely employed worldwide such as hair dyes and hair relaxers.

Factor groups, semidirect product and quantum chemistry [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
In this paper we prove some general theorems about representations of finite groups arising from the inner semidirect product of groups. We show how these results can be used for standard applications of group theory in quantum chemistry through the orthogonality relations for the characters of irreducible representations.

Natural Compounds as Modulators of NADPH Oxidases [PDF]

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, 2013
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are cellular signals generated ubiquitously by all mammalian cells, but their relative unbalance triggers also diseases through intracellular damage to DNA, RNA, proteins, and lipids. NADPH oxidases (NOX) are the only known enzyme family with the sole function to produce ROS.

Effect of ELF e.m. fields on metalloprotein redox-active sites [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
The peculiarity of the distribution and geometry of metallic ions in enzymes pushed us to set the hypothesis that metallic ions in active-site act like tiny antennas able to pick up very feeble e.m. signals. Enzymatic activity of Cu2+, Zn2+ Superoxide Dismutase (SOD1) and Fe2+ Xanthine Oxidase (XO) has been studied, following in vitro generation and ...

A Role for Reactive Oxygen Species Produced by NADPH Oxidases in the Embryo and Aleurone Cells in Barley Seed Germination.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) promote the germination of several seeds, and antioxidants suppress it. However, questions remain regarding the role and production mechanism of ROS in seed germination. Here, we focused on NADPH oxidases, which produce ROS.

NADPH oxidase in human lung fibroblasts

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2004
Reactive oxygen species produced by NADPH oxidase appear to play a role in the response of human lung fibroblast cells to rhinovirus infection. The purpose of the following studies was to characterize the NADPH oxidase components in these cells, to examine the effect of rhinovirus challenge on the expression of these proteins, and to confirm previous ...

Research progress of neurovascular units involved in ischemic stroke

open access: yesIbrain, EarlyView.
The brain receives less blood when an ischemic stroke develops, which damages neurons and leads to an increased release of Pro‐inflammatory mediators that activate neurovascular unit (NVU). When the tight junctions are broken and the basement membrane is disrupted by matrix metalloproteinases produced by active endothelial and pericellular cells ...
