Nafion as Cosurfactant: Solubilization of Nafion in Water in the Presence of Pluronics

Langmuir, 2010
Incorporation of Nafion to aqueous solutions of Pluronics adversely impacts micellization due to extensive Nafion/copolymer interactions. Light scattering and zeta potential measurements provide evidence for the formation of sizable and stable Nafion/copolymer complexes, in expense of the neat copolymer micelles.

Wettability of Nafion and Nafion/Vulcan Carbon Composite Films

Langmuir, 2012
The wettability of the Pt/carbon/Nafion catalyst layer in proton exchange membrane fuel cells is critical to their performance and durability, especially the cathode, as water is needed for the transport of protons to the active sites and is also involved in deleterious Pt nanoparticle dissolution and carbon corrosion. Therefore, the focus of this work

Ion Exchange Capacity of Nafion and Nafion Composites

Langmuir, 2000
The ion exchange capacity of recast Nafion films and composites of Nafion and polystyrene microbeads is determined by titration. Composite formation enhances exchange capacity; exchange capacity increases with the surface area of microbeads in the composite.

Nafion–Nafion/polyvinylidene fluoride–Nafion laminated polymer membrane for direct methanol fuel cells

Journal of Power Sources, 2004
Abstract The laminated composite polymer electrolyte membrane is prepared as a sandwich structure, i.e., Nafion–Nafion/polyvinylene difluoride (PVdF)–Nafion. The conductivity of the laminated membrane is 1.1×10−2 S cm−1. The middle layer of PVdF/Nafion successfully blocks methanol cross-over. In tests in a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC), all of the

Performance of EDLCs using Nafion and Nafion composites as electrolyte

Journal of Applied Electrochemistry, 2010
We present the electrochemical performance of solid-state EDLCs constructed using composites of perfluorosulfonic acid polymer (Nafion) with micro porous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane and with cellulose acetate (CA), as electrolyte with carbon as electrodes (surface area: 260 m2 g−1).

Acidity in Nafion

Journal of Macromolecular Science: Part A - Chemistry, 1990
Abstract Hammett acidity functions have been measured for Nafion films equilibrated with a series of nitroaniline dyes in hydrochloric acid solutions. The effect of ionic strength of alkali metal and tetraalky-lammonium bromides on the ability of the Nafion film to donate a proton to Bronsted bases is the reverse of that expected for acid in solution ...
