Activity of Nafion

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2015
The activity of protons and water content in Nafion films are considered for different electrolytes and electrolyte concentrations in the solution.  A model of activity effects in Nafion will allow optimization of operating conditions for systems such as fuel cells and sensors where proton exchange membranes and films significantly impact system ...

Novel multilayer Nafion/SPI/Nafion composite membrane for PEMFCs

Journal of Power Sources, 2007
A novel multilayer membrane for the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) was developed. Nafion was dispersed uniformly onto both sides of the sulfonated polyimide (SPI) membrane. The Nafion/SPI/Nafion composite membrane was prepared by immersing the SPI into the Nafion-containing casting solution.

Selective Cation Transport through Graphene in Nafion | Graphene | Nafion Membranes

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2020
Graphene and related two-dimensional (2D) materials are being intensively studied for use in membrane separators. The ultrathin nature of 2D materials combined with the opportunities they afford for intentional creation of nanometer-sized pores having controllable size and chemical character could allow for membrane separations with high flux and ...

Hygrothermal aging of Nafion®

Journal of Membrane Science, 2009
The membrane durability is a critical issue for the development of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC). Since PEMFC in situ tests were not conclusive to determine Nafion (R) membrane degradation mechanism, ex situ aging tests were performed on Nafion (R) 112 in practical fuel cell usage conditions.

Quenching of Excited in Nafion Ionomer Solution and in Nafion Membrane

Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 2009
The behavior of excited with the electron–acceptor quenchers methyl viologen and C60F36 in ethanol containing Nafion ionomer and in the water nanochannels of Nafion membrane was investigated by measurement of luminescence quenching. In Nafion ionomer solution, and methyl viologen are adsorbed onto Nafion aggregates, whereas C60F36 is held in Nafion ...

Crystallinity in Cast Nafion

Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 2000
The performance of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell is critically dependent on the water uptake in the polymer electrolyte, usually Nafion. Nafion in solution is often painted onto the electrodes of the fuel cell. It is important that this cast Nafion film stay amorphous and not crystallize. Cast Nafion films, ca.

Nafion: A Thermodynamic Sketch

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2016
Nafion®, the most commonly employed ion exchange polymer, serves as both a separator and a sensor platform. After more than 30 years of use, properties of Nafion have been measured and various models of Nafion have been proposed. Many properties of Nafion have been measured as a function of water content and hydration [1]. This includes
