Ytterbium doped nano-crystalline optical fiber for reduced photodarkening

open access: yes, 2010
We report suppression of photodarkening in Yb-doped nano-crystalline fibers in silica host. The photodarkening induced loss reduced by 20 times compared to Yb-doped aluminosilicate fibers. The laser efficiency of the nano-crystalline fiber was 79%

Thick multilayered (silica/gold) dipole nano-antenna

open access: yesApplied Optics, 2015
Nano-antennas are the optical equivalent of antennas that are used to transmit and receive information at radio frequencies. These antennas have been used in different applications in photonics such as optical imaging, particle manipulation, bio-sensing, and improvement of the performance of solar cells. In this article we study composite nano-antennas

Towards Designing Durable Sculptural Elements: Ensemble Learning in Predicting Compressive Strength of Fiber-Reinforced Nano-Silica Modified Concrete

open access: yesBuildings
Fiber-reinforced nano-silica concrete (FrRNSC) was applied to a concrete sculpture to address the issue of brittle fracture, and the primary objective of this study was to explore the potential of hybridizing the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) with four ...

Application of hydrophobic fluorinated silicon oxide nanoparticle coating on electrodynamic screen (EDS) films for enhancing self-cleaning function of solar collectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Optical surfaces, which are exposed to outdoor environmental conditions, are susceptible to dust deposition. Sunlight incident on the surface of photovoltaic (PV) modules is attenuated by the dust layer accumulation on the front surface of the modules ...

Silicon Derived from Glass Bottles as Anode Materials for Lithium Ion Full Cell Batteries. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Every year many tons of waste glass end up in landfills without proper recycling, which aggravates the burden of waste disposal in landfill. The conversion from un-recycled glass to favorable materials is of great significance for sustainable strategies.

Zwitterion-Stabilized Silica Nanoparticles: Toward Nonstick Nano

open access: yesLangmuir, 2010
Using a short-chain zwitterionic organosiloxane, silica nanoparticles were stabilized against aggregation by high ionic strength and/or proteins. Turbidimetry and dynamic light scattering showed that "zwitterated" nanoparticles did not exhibit a significant increase in hydrodynamic radius.

The Synergistic Effects of Hybrid Micro and Nano Silica in Influencing the Mechanical Properties of Epoxy Composites—A New Model

open access: yesPolymers, 2022
Highlights Micro silica and nano silica are found to yield similar effects in influencing the values of Young’s modulus. The values of Young’s modulus of hybrid silica particle are higher than single filler, at the same weight loading.
