Obstacles to applications of nanostructured thermoelectric alloys [PDF]
A major theme in thermoelectric research is based on controlling the formation of nanostructures that occur naturally in bulk intermetallic alloys through various types of thermodynamic phase transformation processes (He et al., 2013). The question of how such nanostructures form and why they lead to a high thermoelectric figure of merit (zT) are ...

Effect of deposition current density and annealing temperature on the microstructure and magnetic properties of nanostructured Ni-Fe-W-Cu alloys [PDF]
Ni-Fe-W-Cu alloy powders were obtained by electrodeposition from an ammonium citrate bath at current densities ranging between 70 and 600 mA cm-2. As the deposition current density increased, the contents of Fe and W in the alloy increased, and ...

Nanostructured crystallization of casting alloys
Crystallization of casting alloys has been shown to be a nanostructured process. Microcrystals of phases in the temperature range of liquidus and solidus, during eutectic and peritectic reactions, are formed from nanocrystals of components A and B of alloys, their free atoms and atomic complexes.

Synthesis, structure and properties of nickel-iron-tungsten alloy electrodeposits - Part II: Effect of microstructure on hardness, electrical and magnetic properties [PDF]
Nanostructured nickel-iron-tungsten alloys were produced by electrodeposition from an ammoniacal citrate bath. The tungsten content of the alloy ranged from 0.8 wt.% to 11 wt.%, and the crystal grain size of the FCC phase of the solid solution ...

Nanostructurization of Fe-Ni Alloy [PDF]
Data about an effect of cyclic γ-α-γ martensitic transformations on the structure state of reverted austenite Fe-31.7 wt.% Ni-0.06 wt.% C alloy are presented. The effect of multiple direct γ-α and reverse α-γ martensitic transformations on fragmentation of austenitic grains has been investigated by electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction methods.

Nanostructured high-strength alloys [PDF]
Metallurgy Low-density magnesium alloys are a promising type of material for making lighter vehicles and improving fuel efficiency. One challenge for lightweighting is developing high-strength magnesium alloys. Wu et al. created a dual-phase magnesium thin film with near-ideal strength.
