Herbicidal activity of Pennisetum purpureum (Napier grass)

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Biotechnology, 2012
This study investigates potential herbicidal effects of Pennisetum purpureum extracts on two selected weed bioassay species. Ethyl acetate extract of P. purpureum was able to suppress germination of bioassay species by 41%. Although, it had no phytotoxic activity on the root or shoot growth of bioassay species, it had caused leaf discs of bioassay ...

Constructing Eco‐Responsible National Identities Through Collective Memory: Settler and Māori Histories of Environmental Change in Aotearoa New Zealand

open access: yesNations and Nationalism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A growing body of scholarship argues that collective memories of historical environmental change—formed and transmitted through museums, movies, novels, activist performances and other cultural texts and practices—can help nurture proenvironmentalism.

Soil Property Responses to Push‐Pull Cropping in East Africa

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT Push‐pull technology is increasingly promoted in sub‐Saharan Africa, particularly for pest management and enhancing crop productivity. However, its influence on soil properties remains understudied, despite its potential implications for soil health and sustainable soil fertility management. This study examines soil properties in push‐pull and

Integrated and closed‐loop biorefinery strategies for efficient waste valorization and biofuel production

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 4, Page 1656-1676, April 2026.
Abstract Advancements in biofuel production technologies are essential for reducing global dependence on fossil fuels and addressing their overexploitation. Many valuable components of biomass, such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, remain underused in traditional biorefineries, which typically rely on a single feedstock to produce a primary ...

Engineered Cellulose: A Multifunctional Platform for Next‐Generation Sustainable Environmental Technologies

open access: yesEcoMat, Volume 8, Issue 4, April 2026.
Engineered cellulose—enabled by functionalization, hybridization, and nano‐engineering—emerges as a versatile platform driving next‐generation solutions in water purification, CO2 capture, air filtration, soil remediation, energy storage, and sustainable packaging. ABSTRACT Engineered cellulose is redefining the frontier of sustainable materials in the

Metal absorption by pigweed and napier grass in biochar-treated soils

open access: yesSains Tanah: Journal of Soil Science and Agroclimatology
Heavy metal absorption by plants is suggested to be affected by soil treatment with different types of biochar. Due to various types of available biochar materials in the environment, effects of three representative biochar types were evaluated in a ...

Alkaline treatment and thermal properties of Napier grass fibres

open access: yesInternational Journal of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, 2022
This paper presents an overview of a natural fibre, namely Pennisetum purpureum, which is commonly known as Napier grass. This paper’s intention is to analyse Napier grass fibre to assess the effect of alkaline treatment on the tensile properties, thermal stability, and morphology of the fibres.

KARYOTYPE ALTERATIONS AFTER HYBRIDIZATION BETWEEN Pennisetum purpureum AND Pennisetum glaucum

open access: yesCiência e Agrotecnologia, 2015
Napier grass and pearl millet are tropical forages from the genus Pennisetum. The variability in those species is explored in breeding programs of forages, as well as in the production of interspecific hybrids. Hybridization is a phenomenon that leads to

Prediction and optimisation of syngas production from air gasification of Napier grass via stoichiometric equilibrium model

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management: X, 2021
Napier grass is a promising candidate as a potential solid biofuel due to its wide availability, high growth rate, carbon neutrality and high volatility. Syngas is produced from gasification of Napier grass which can be further utilised for production of

Resistance of Napier grass clones to Napier grass Stunt Disease.

open access: yesAfrican Crop Science Journal, 2014
Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach) is the major livestock fodder under intensive and semi-intensive systems in East Africa. However, the productivity of the grass is constrained by Napier grass Stunt Disease (NSD). The purpose of this study was to identify Napier grass clones with resistance to NSD.
