EVALUATION OF NARCOTIC AND NARCOTIC ANTAGONIST INTERACTIONS IN PRIMATES*

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1976
Multiple and single drug interactions were studied in morphine-dependent monkeys whose dependency was maintained by self-infusion. Naloxone, naltrexone, and cyclazocine precipitated abstinence syndrome which the animals generally controlled with increased morphine intake.

STRUCTURAL FEATURES ASSOCIATED WITH NARCOTICS AND NARCOTIC ANTAGONISTS

Neuropharmacology, 1975
Viminol shares many pharmacological properties of the traditional narcotics, but it differs from the latter because it has an extremely reduced capacity for producing physical dependence. This chapter discusses the types of pharmacological activity related to the structural features of the Viminol stereoisomers.

Narcotic dependence, narcotic action and dopamine receptors

Life Sciences, 1975
Abstract Acute systematic administration of narcotic analgesics increases the firing rate of nerve cells in the zona compacta of the substantia nigra, causes an increase in the rate of dopamine turnover in striatal and mesolimbic areas of the brain, stimulates prolactin release, inhibits brain self-stimulation and discriminated shock-avoidance ...
