Randomized Longitudinal Study Comparing Three Nasal Respiratory Support Modes to Prevent Intermittent Hypoxia in Very Preterm Infants

open access: yesChildren, 2020
Nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) devices using variable (vf-) and continuous (cf-) flow or synchronized nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (s-NIPPV) are used to prevent or treat intermittent hypoxia (IH) in preterm infants.

Using Nasal Intermittent Positive Pressure Ventilation on a General Respiratory Ward

open access: yesJournal of the Royal College of Physicians of London, 1998
To assess the use of nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in treating acute-on-chronic respiratory failure in a general medical ward.Retrospective analysis of clinical outcome.A general medical ward of a tertiary respiratory medicine referral centre.Altogether 75 patients admitted with acute exacerbations of chronic respiratory ...

A Case of Multiple Mitochondrial Dysfunctions Syndrome 1 and Review of the Literature

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Multiple mitochondrial dysfunctions syndrome 1 (MMDS1, MIM #605711) due to NFU1 gene defects is an ultra‐rare autosomal recessive inborn error of metabolism associated with reduced function of NFU1 iron–sulfur cluster (ISC) scaffold protein.

Use of nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation to avoid intubation in neonates

open access: yesSaudi Medical Journal, 2004
Nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) has widely been used in neonates to prevent extubation failure and apnea. This pilot study was carried out to look at the early use of NIPPV to avoid intubation. The study was carried out over a period of 3 months from August 2003 to October 2003 at the Royal Hospital, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman ...

Seminars in epileptology: Holistic management of epilepsy in adults with intellectual development disorders

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract This seminar addresses the complexity of the management of epilepsy in adults with intellectual development disorders (IDD), advocating holistic and multidisciplinary care aligned with the learning objectives of the International League Against Epilepsy. Epilepsy is significantly more prevalent in people with IDD, presenting unique diagnostic,

Neonatal respiratory support strategies—short and long-term respiratory outcomes

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2023
Mechanical ventilation (MV), although life-saving, is associated with chronic respiratory morbidity in both preterm and term born infants. New ventilation modes have been developed with the aim of minimising lung injury.

Effect of epileptogenesis on hypercapnic cardioventilatory response in kainic acid rats

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Cardioventilatory failure is the leading mechanism proposed to underlie sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), which occurs predominantly at night in patients with generalized tonic–clonic seizures. Interictal hypercapnic cardioventilatory responses are suggested to be involved, as they are ablated in chronically epileptic ...

Non-synchronized nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) versus nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) after extubation in preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome

open access: yesJournal of Behçet Uz Children's Hospital, 2019
INTRODUCTION: To determine whether non-synchronized nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) reduces extubation failure, compared to nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP), in preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome (

A randomized controlled trial of synchronized nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation in RDS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Perinatology, 2007
Comparison of outcomes of infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), post-surfactant, extubated to synchronized nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (SNIPPV) or continued on conventional ventilation (CV).Prospective post-surfactant randomized controlled trial of primary mode SNIPPV compared with CV in infants (born from July 2000 to ...

Techno‐Economic Analysis and Multi‐Objective Optimization of a Novel Combined Cooling and Power System Driven by Geothermal Source and Waste Heat From Data Center

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A novel combined cooling and power generation system is proposed by integrating organic Rankine cycle (ORC) with an absorption heat transformer, which is driven by combining geothermal energy and data center's waste heat. The system using R601a yielded the best overall performance, achieving an exergy efficiency of 40.34% and an annual cost of 130.29 k$
