The Novel Viral Non‐Coding RNA LMP2A‐IT1 Promotes the Lytic Replication of EBV

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Decades after its discovery, EBV's genome still harbours unannotated “dark matter”. LMP2A‐IT1, a novel EBV‐encoded transcript identified in this work, is strongly upregulated during lytic replication and promotes BZLF1 expression, likely through activation of inflammatory responses, thereby enhancing viral propagation in a self‐reinforcing positive ...

Dynamic models of pneumococcal carriage and the impact of the Heptavalent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine on invasive pneumococcal disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
BACKGROUND: The 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine has been introduced in national immunisation programmes of most industrialised countries and recently in two African GAVI eligible countries (Rwanda and The Gambia). However the long term effects of

Epigenetic Activation of ANGPTL4 Drives EBV‐Negative Gastric Cancer via Neutrophil Recruitment and NET Release via Stabilizing ANXA5

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ANGPTL4 exhibits distinct promoter methylation patterns and expression profiles in EBV‐positive versus EBV‐negative gastric cancer. Secreted C‐terminal ANGPTL4 (cANGPTL4) acts as the dominant functional isoform driving GC proliferation, EMT, and neutrophil infiltration. cANGPTL4 promotes neutrophil recruitment via NF‐κB/CXCL8 axis.

Measurement of pneumococcal IgG antibody, carriage and infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae in children under five years of age with acute respiratory infection in Niger

open access: yesJournal of Infection and Public Health, 2017
Pneumonia is the major cause of mortality in children under five years.A total of 751 children aged 1–59 months admitted for acute respiratory infection were included in this study. Pneumococcal serum IgG antibody was determined by ELISA.

Nasopharyngeal carriage and susceptibility patterns of Streptococcu Pneumoniae in Kumasi, Ghana

open access: yesWest African Journal of Medicine, 2004
Penicillin resistant Streptococcus pneunmoniae poses an increasing problem in paediatrics, particularly in less developed countries. Outside of South Africa, little is known about S. pneumoniae susceptibilities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of pneumococcal colonization and antimicrobial ...

Smart Denture with Embedded Thin‐Film Temperature Sensors Patterned by Femtosecond Laser Pulse for Elderly Healthcare

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
We demonstrate the direct‐laser patterning of a gold thin film on polymethyl methacrylate to fabricate a temperature sensor for dentures. The temperature sensor‐embedded smart dentures are evaluated in an oral environment, enabling in‐situ monitoring for elderly healthcare.

Rapid replacement by non-vaccine pneumococcal serotypes may mitigate the impact of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine on nasopharyngeal bacterial ecology

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
There is growing concern that interventions that alter microbial ecology can adversely affect health. We characterised the impact of the seven-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) on pneumococcal carriage and the bacterial component of the ...

Dual Aberrant Splicing Caused by an Apparently Missense CHD7 Variant, c.5273A>G (p.Asp1758Gly), in CHARGE Syndrome

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT CHARGE syndrome is a rare congenital disorder primarily attributed to heterozygous pathogenic variants of the CHD7 gene. Most pathogenic CHD7 variants are loss‐of‐function (LoF) variants, whereas the interpretation of missense variants remains challenging in the absence of functional evidence for their pathogenicity.
