Urinary proteomics for prediction of mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes and microalbuminuria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: The urinary proteomic classifier CKD273 has shown promise for prediction of progressive diabetic nephropathy (DN). Whether it is also a determinant of mortality and cardiovascular disease in patients with microalbuminuria (MA) is unknown.

CK2α Deficiency Drives Myocardial Fibrosis via Desmin‐Induced Mitochondrial Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CK2α preserves mitochondrial homeostasis by phosphorylating Desmin to recruit Cryab, ensuring proper filament assembly. CK2α deficiency disrupts this interaction, causing mitochondrial dysfunction, metabolic shifts, bioenergetic failure, and oxidative stress—ultimately establishing a pro‐fibrotic environment that drives cardiac fibrosis.

Brain Natriuretic Peptide Levels Predict Morbidity and Mortality in Haemodialysis Patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Brain natriuretic peptide is a predictor of mortality in multiple cardiovascular diseases but its value in patients with chronic kidney disease is still a matter of debate. Patients and methods: We studied 48 haemodialysis patients with mean

Plasma N-Terminal Pro-Brain Natriuretic Peptide as Prognostic Marker in Fatal Cardial Decompensation with Sunitinib Malate Therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A 74-year-old man with metastatic renal cell carcinoma and a history of cardiac failure was treated with sunitinib malate. MUGA echocardiography could not detect a relevant change in the ejection fraction although the clinical situation of the patient ...

Resolution of Refractory Multifocal Atrial Tachycardia in Costello Syndrome Using Trametinib: A Case Supporting MEK Inhibitors as Targeted, Specific Antiarrhythmic

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Arrhythmias affect approximately half of patients with Costello syndrome (CS, OMIM # 218040), with non‐reentrant atrial tachycardia being the most common. This case describes an infant with Costello syndrome carrying the pathogenic HRAS c.34G>A (p.G12S) variant who developed early‐onset, drug‐refractory multifocal atrial tachycardia (MAT ...

The diagnostic and prognostic role of amino-terminal pro-brain type natriuretic peptides in pediatric cardiac diseases and pulmonary hypertension

open access: yesHeart Vessels and Transplantation, 2021
Objective: Several studies showed that N-terminal pro-brain type natriuretic peptide (NT-pro-BNP) as the reliable marker both in diagnostic and prognostic workup of pediatric patients with congenital heart disease complicated by pulmonary hypertension ...

Complementary multi‐omics profiling of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension reveals immune cell alterations, epigenetic changes, and genetically supported candidate genes

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study presents an integrative multi‐omics framework to uncover the molecular mechanisms and potential biomarkers of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). Anthropometric and biochemical data were correlated using canonical correlation analysis, revealing key cardiometabolic associations. Single‐cell RNA sequencing identified immune

The expression of MALAT1, plasma brain natriuretic peptide, and Tei index in sepsis-induced myocardial injury

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery
Purpose We sought to investigate the expression of MALAT1, plasma brain natriuretic peptide, and Tei index in sepsis-induced myocardial injury. Methods The current retrospective analysis focused on 146 sepsis patients admitted to our hospital from ...

TNF-α Regulates Natriuretic Peptides and Aquaporins in Human Bronchial Epithelial Cells BEAS-2B

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2013
Postoperative-fluid retention is a severe complication frequently reported in patients undergoing major surgical procedures. The complex network of molecules involved in such a severe surgery-induced condition remains poorly understood.

Brain natriuretic peptide: Diagnostic potential in dogs [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinarski Glasnik, 2009
The endocrine role of the heart is evident in the secretion of noradrenaline and natriuretic peptides. The secretion of natriuretic peptides presents a useful mechanism for different conditions of cardiac dysfunction.
