Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Natural Visualizations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper demonstrates the prevalence of a shared characteristic between visualizations and images of nature. We have analyzed visualization competitions and user studies of visualizations and found that the more preferred, better performing ...

Natural Chaotic Inflation in Supergravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We propose a chaotic inflation model in supergravity. In the model the K\"ahler potential has a Nambu-Goldstone-like shift symmetry of the inflaton chiral multiplet which ensures the flatness of the inflaton potential beyond the Planck scale.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Beyond Generalized Multiplicities: Register Machines over Groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Register machines are a classic model of computing, often seen as a canonical example of a device manipulating natural numbers. In this paper, we de ne register machines operating on general groups instead.

Natural Slow-Roll Inflation

open access: yes, 1993
It is shown that the non-perturbative dynamics of a phase change to the non-trivial phase of $\lambda\varphi^4$-theory in the early universe can give rise to slow-rollover inflation without recourse to unnaturally small couplings.Comment: 14 LaTex pages (
