The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

Toxic Algae Contamination and Demand for Shellfish: A Case Study of Demand for Mussels in Montreal [PDF]
Toxic algae blooms are a worldwide phenomena, which appear to be increasing in frequency and severity. These natural events cause product contaminations that often have significant economic consequences, including supply interruptions due to closed ...

The application of cogeneration systems to the cooling of food and buildings in East Timor : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Technology at Massey University [PDF]
Cogeneration is generation of both heat and power simultaneously using a single primary energy input. Cogeneration recovers "waste heat "from a conventional power generation plant to produce useful energy, leading to the increased overall efficiency of ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron

The average amount of food that was stored during an autumn by Willow Tits Porus montanus was estimated by sampling hoarding intensities and analysing the energetic contents of the stored items. Measurements of retrieval and losses of the stored food made it possible to calculate how much of the stored food that actually was used by the hoarder.

Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

A global biogeocenotical biosphere simulation [PDF]
This model of the D. Forrester type, constructed in differential equations, predicts the food and mineral supply for the factors biosphere population, depending on two socio-economic factors, until about the year 2500.
