On the fractal properties of natural human standing
Neuroscience Letters, 2000We analyzed the temporal evolution of the displacement of the center of pressure (COP) during prolonged unconstrained standing (30 min) in non-impaired human subjects. The COP represents the collective outcome of the postural control system and the force of gravity and is the main parameter used in studies on postural control.

Natural Head Position in Standing Subjects
Acta Odontologica Scandinavica, 1971The natural head position in standing subjects was studied on cephalometric profile radiographs of 120 Danish male students aged 22-30 years. Two head positions were recorded, one determined by the subjects own feeling of a natural head balance (the self balance position) and the other by the subject looking straight into a mirror (the mirror position).

Humility is a virtue that is helpful in a persons relationship with nature. A humble person sees value in nature and acts accordingly with the proper respect. In this paper, humility is discussed in three aspects. First, humility entails an overcoming of self-absorption. Second, humility involves coming into contact with a larger, more complex reality.

Pediatric Physical Therapy, 2016
To collect reference data for the Timed Floor to Stand-Natural (TFTS-N) on a large, diverse sample of school children who are typically developing, taking into account age, sex, and body mass index (BMI).Five physical therapists administered the TFTS-N on a sample of convenience of 1476 school children who were typically developing, aged 5 to 14 years (

The Natural Sit-to-Stand-Walk of the Frail
Volume 3: Biomedical and Biotechnology Engineering, 2019Abstract Sit-to-stand-walk (STW) is a complex task that sequentially transitions an individual from sitting through standing to walking. In this study we evaluate the unrestricted, natural pattern of movement of the STW task from a hospital bed of 21 (5 Female, 16 Male) frail (MFS > 55) adults (68.0±11.2 years) with a total of 144

On the nature and standing of psychoanalytic psychotherapy
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, 2012In this paper, I offer some reflections on the standing of psychoanalytic psychotherapy in the National Health Service (NHS), with special reference to contemporary forms of evidence-based thinking. I consider what may follow when a narrow view of science or psychotherapeutic practice becomes conventional wisdom and assumes dominance. I place stress on

Above‐ground standing biomass and tree species diversity in natural stands of Central Europe
Journal of Vegetation Science, 2007AbstractQuestions: 1.Is the above‐ground biomass in natural temperate forests positively correlated with tree species diversity?2. Is this biomass related to the diversity of tree functional groups?Location: We used published data from over 100 permanent plots located in natural temperate forests in the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia. Methods: We

Natural sensory feedback for control of standing
Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2002The use of natural sensory signals as feedback for FES systems within rehabilitation is still in its early stage. So far the signals have mostly been used for event detection, e.g, detection of slip. A new application of sensory feedback signals is to apply it in control of paraplegic standing, This paper describes a preliminary study to the use of ...
