Clinical Techniques in Equine Practice, 2007Standing stallions for natural service is a commitment that should not be entered into without careful thought and planning. It can be a very exciting and financially rewarding endeavor, but without proper thought, it is apt to turn into a disaster. Proper facilities, adequate competent staff, and well-managed horses are a must if the operation is to ...

The mating system in natural and shelterwood stands of Douglas-fir
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1985Mating systems in two pairs of old-growth uncut and adjacent shelterwood stands of Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. 'menziesii') were compared by estimating the proportions of viable progenies due to outcrossing (t) with both single-locus and multilocus techniques.

Stand composition affects soil quality in oak stands on reclaimed and natural sites
Geoderma, 2005Abstract In many afforested reclamation sites as well as in commercial forests naturally settled shrubs or trees (“non-target species”; NTS) are cut down to improve the growth of the target trees (TT). In afforested oak plantations ( Quercus robur ) of the Rhineland (Germany) the NTS broom ( Cytisus scoparius ) and birch ( Betula pendula ) can occur ...

The Nature of the Vertical Jump Test and the Standing Broad Jump
Research Quarterly. American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, 1966Abstract The jump-reach test and standing broad jump were investigated as tests of muscle power. The criterion used was the power lever. An analysis of the variance components of the two jump tests revealed that each test involved a large proportion of specific variance. Of the common factor variance muscle power appeared to be only one component.

Natural Regeneration of Tree Stands at Timberline
1979At natural timberline there exists a dynamic equilibrium between advance of regeneration upwards in the timberline ecotone (kampfzone) and retreat of this regeneration due to existence of external conditions no longer conducive to survival. Natural regeneration thus plays an important role in maintaining the upper forest limit.

NATURAL MIXED STANDS AND STAND STRUCTURES IN WEST MEDITERRANEAN REGION
