Natural Waxes as Oil Structurants
2015Wax-based oleogels display very interesting and complex rheological behavior; the physical gels of liquid oils created using natural waxes can be assumed to have characteristics of both the flocculated suspensions and semi-dilute polymer solutions. In this chapter, a comparative evaluation of six different natural waxes (with differing melting ranges ...

Natural montan wax and its raffinates
European Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, 2001Natural waxes have been used by mankind since prehistoric times. Many uses of wax are based on the imitation of its natural functions. Waxes in nature primarily serve to provide protective barriers on the surfaces of living organisms. Their functions are also determined by wax characteristics such as adhesion and cohesion, as well as slip and ...

Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology
Novel waxes require safety documentation, which traditionally involves using a battery of assays in experimental animals. For a class of well-studied substances (e.g., waxes) generally recognized to be of low or no toxicity, bridging methods that leverage safety information to fill data gaps for new substances may be considered.

On the chemical nature of a wax from China
Abstracts of the Papers Communicated to the Royal Society of LondonAbstract The wax which is the subject of this investigation, is a substance imported into this country from China. It has the general appearance of spermaceti, but is harder than that body. The author gives reasons for believing that this wax, like bees’-wax, is a secretion from an insect.

Composition of some natural waxes
1974Natural waxes are very complex mixtures and for this reason analysis was originally limited to determination of acid, ester and a few other values. Later, examination of hydrolysis products showed that Japan wax was a triglyceride wax and that sugar cane wax contained a large proportion of polyaldehydes .

VIII. An investigation on the chemical nature of wax
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of LondonAbstract I Have placed the investigation of the Chinese wax between that of the cerotic acid and of the residue of the bees’-wax which remains after that substance has been separated from it. By the saponification of this Chinese wax we procure, as I have shown, an acid identical with the cerotic acid from bees’-wax, and also the ...
