Axial length as a risk factor for pseudophakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment: A Danish registry study

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue 5, Page 517-525, August 2026.
Abstract Purpose To examine axial length as a risk factor for pseudophakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (pRRD). Methods We identified eyes that underwent phacoemulsification between 2 May 2002 and 10 November 2023 and had an axial length registered at the Departments of Ophthalmology in the Capital Region of Denmark or the private clinic ...

Habitat loss and fragmentation for an old‐forest species is driven by severe wildfire and drought

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2026.
We examined the long‐term trends in habitat for California spotted owls and attributed habitat changes to specific drivers. We found that the 43% decline in habitat from 1985 to 2022 could primarily be attributed to wildfire and drought. Habitat patches also became smaller and more isolated over time.

Pharmacological Influences on the R2 Blink Reflex Response in Healthy Participants: A Systematic Review

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 3, August 2026.
Pharmacological modulation of the R2 blink reflex was comparable whether responses were elicited using standard patch or concentric electrodes. Across nine studies, noradrenergic and GABAergic interventions produced the most consistent effects, supporting the R2 blink reflex as a sensitive biomarker of trigeminofacial nociceptive processing.

Fire–Moisture Interactions Shape Recovery Trajectories Across Temperate Vegetation Communities

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 8, August 2026.
Future recovery from fire will be governed not only by characteristics of the fire itself and those of the affected vegetation community, but also by the extent to which these characteristics interact with prevailing hydro‐climatic conditions. Favourable soil moisture conditions post‐fire increase the likelihood that ecosystems will recover to a stable

Global Population Structure and Dynamics of Wheat Powdery Mildew

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 15, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The global movement of pests and pathogens can often be traced to human migratory activities that include the movement of agricultural crops. The causal agent of wheat powdery mildew, the ascomycete fungus Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici (B. graminis f. sp.

Three‐Fourths of Carbon Emissions From 2023 Record‐Breaking Wildfires in Canada Traced to Soil and Peat Combustion

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract In 2023, wildfires burned vast areas in Canada, emitting large amounts of carbon (C). The area burned by the 2023 wildfires is the largest ever recorded in Canada, but the partitioning of C emissions between aboveground biomass and soil sources remains unknown.

Molecular Dynamics Simulation and Experimental Study of Friction and Wear Characteristics of Carbon Nanotube-Reinforced Nitrile Butadiene Rubber

open access: yesLubricants
Nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and its various composite materials are widely employed as friction materials in mechanical equipment. The use of carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforcement in NBR for improved friction and wear characteristics has become a major ...
