Clinical and Financial Impact of Rapid Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing in Blood Cultures

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2022
The rapid identification of pathogens that cause bloodstream infections plays a vital role in the modern clinical microbiology laboratory. Despite demonstrating a significant reduction in turnaround time and a significant effect on clinical decisions ...

Prospect for HRE-free high coercivity Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets

open access: yesScripta Materialia, 2018
Recent state-of-the-art microstructure investigations on Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets have revealed that the Nd2Fe14B grains in conventional sintered magnets are exchange-coupled through ferromagnetic grain boundary phase and the coercivity is governed by ...

In situ trace element and Sm-Nd isotope analysis of accessory minerals in an Eoarchean tonalitic gneiss from Greenland: Implications for Hf and Nd isotope decoupling in Earth's ancient rocks

open access: yesChemical Geology, 2019
Some of the Earth's oldest preserved continental crustal rocks, from southern West Greenland, contain contradictory radiogenic isotope signatures, whereby Hf isotope ratios are chondritic but Nd isotope ratios are distinctly super-chondritic.

In vitro antibacterial activity of ZnO and Nd doped ZnO nanoparticles against ESBL producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Pure ZnO and Neodymium (Nd) doped ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by the co-precipitation method. The synthesized nanoparticles retained the wurtzite hexagonal structure. From FESEM studies, ZnO and Nd doped ZnO NPs showed nanorod and nanoflower

Evaluating the Association of Face Covering Mandates on COVID-19 Severity by State

open access: yesJournal of Primary Care & Community Health, 2022
Objective: During the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, mitigation measures were implemented on a state-by-state basis. Governors were responsible for establishing interventions appropriate for their states and the timing of implementation.

Acetyl-CoA carboxylase inhibition by ND-630 reduces hepatic steatosis, improves insulin sensitivity, and modulates dyslipidemia in rats

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2016
Significance Using structure-based drug design, we have identified a series of potent allosteric protein–protein interaction acetyl-CoA carboxylase inhibitors, exemplified by ND-630, that interact within the acetyl-CoA carboxylase subunit phosphopeptide ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...
