It is meaningful to use a prestressed near-surface mounted (NSM) fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) system to strengthen reinforced concrete (RC) beams. However, brittle failure of debonding or FRP breakage may occur.

Bond Strength of Near-Surface Mounted FRP Strip-to-Concrete Joints
Journal of Composites for Construction, 2007The retrofitting technique of near-surface mounting (NSM) fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars/strips is receiving more attention recently due to a number of advantages over the externally bonded technique. However, there is insufficient data available in the existing literature to quantify the intermediate crack (IC) debonding mechanism of reinforced ...

Bond Strength Model for CFRP Strips Near-Surface Mounted to Concrete
Journal of Composites for Construction, 2014AbstractThis paper is concerned with the development of an accurate bond strength model for carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips near-surface mounted (NSM) to concrete where debonding occurs as a result of cohesion failure in the adjacent concrete.

Vortex dynamics in the near wake of a surface-mounted hemisphere
Physics of FluidsThe dynamics of vortical structures for the flow over an isolated surface-mounted hemisphere are investigated with time-resolved particle image velocimetry and hydrogen bubble visualization techniques. The 10 mm height hemisphere is completely submerged in the laminar boundary layer, and the Reynolds number based on the hemisphere height is 780.
