Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Endoluminal negative pressure wound treatment of anastomotic leakage in rectal surgery patients – critical review of the literature. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
During past 20 years the use of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has shown it effectivity and efficiency in treatment of different indications.

Nomogram predicting macroscopic finding with limited or no clinical implication in 19175 patients referred to esophagogastroduodenoscopy

open access: yesCogent Medicine, 2016
Objective: The diagnostic yield of esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) depends on appropriate patient selection. The aim of the current study was to create a nomogram predicting findings with limited or no clinical implication in patients referred to EGD ...

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Negative pressure therapy in the treatment of a traumatic fistula of glenohumeral joint with concurrent osteomyelitis and infection of periarticular tissues. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A negative pressure dressing system enables effective dressing of traumatic wounds. Extensive injuries and tissue defects that accompany bone fractures and articular surface injuries require special management.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

The Effect of Negative Emotion Appeals on Charitable Giving Behaviour [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
openindividual donations contribute more than 70% of charitable giving each year, and up until now, the most dominant advertising appeal has been targeting negative feeling such as sadness and guilt even though the exact effect of such appeals is under ...

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.
