NEGATIVE BINOMIAL APPROXIMATION TO THE BETA BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION [PDF]
This paper determines a bound on the approximation of the beta binomial distribution with parameters n, andby a negative binomial distri- bution with parametersand + + +n . With this bound, it is indicated that the beta binomial distribution can be well approximated by the negative binomial distribution whenis large.

Weighted negative binomial-Poisson Lindley with application to genetic data
Background & Aim: Mixed Poisson and mixed negative binomial distributions have been considered as alternatives for fitting count data with over-dispersion.

Background In current epidemiology of tuberculosis (TB), heterogeneity in infectiousness among TB patients is a challenge, which is not well studied. We aimed to quantify this heterogeneity and the presence of “super-spreading” events that can assist in ...

Application of the discrete distribution in Bayes analYsis of nature area coverage data
Classical statistical methods do not always provide desired results for every situation. Therefore, new alternative methods of data analysis are in demand. As the computational power becomes more modern, Bayes statistical methods are increasingly applied

A beta-Poisson model for infectious disease transmission.
Outbreaks of emerging and zoonotic infections represent a substantial threat to human health and well-being. These outbreaks tend to be characterised by highly stochastic transmission dynamics with intense variation in transmission potential between ...

A Stopped Negative Binomial Distribution
This paper introduces a new discrete distribution suggested by curtailed sampling rules common in early-stage clinical trials. We derive the distribution of the smallest number of independent Bernoulli(p) trials needed in order to observe either s successes or t failures.

Computer generation of initial spatial distribution for cell automata [PDF]
The algorithm to generate spatial distribution patterns was developed and presented in this study. Three typical spatial distribution patterns, i.e., Poisson distribution, binomial distribution, and negative binomial distribution were included in the ...
