Experiments in the Machining of Ice at Negative Rake Angles

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 1984
AbstractThe cutting force components and the cutting moment on the cutting tool were measured during the orthogonal machining of ice with cutting tools inclined at negative rake angles. The variables included the cutting depth (< 1 mm), the cutting speed (0.01 ms−1 to 1 ms−1), and the rake angles (–15° to –60°).

MINIMIZING TEMPERATURE AND TOOL WEAR ON ROCK CUTTING WITH NEGATIVE RAKE ANGLE

open access: yesMM Science Journal, 2019
This research discusses the effect of negative rake angle, to the temperature and tool wear on rock cutting. The cutting process was conducted on marble rock material, without coolants and utilized tungsten carbide inserts with 0o , -5 o , -10o , -15o , -25o , - 30o and -40o rake angles; meanwhile, the feed rate, spindle speed and depth of cut were ...

Friction in Orthogonal Cutting Finite Elements Models with Large Negative Rake Angle [PDF]

open access: yesTribology in Industry, 2016
In this paper, orthogonal cutting finite elements models are built for the investigation of the impact of large negative rake angles on the friction coefficient in the tool-chip interface in machining. The simulation results give an insight on the mechanism of chip formation in processes with large negative active rake angle, such as machining with ...

Based on The Gate Bottom Edge Structures Specific Numerical Simulation of Flow Pattern of Gate [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2021
The bottom edge structure is a key factor affecting the flow pattern under the gate. The reasonable selection of bottom edge configuration plays an important role in the safe and stable operation of the gate.

Geometrical analysis of thread milling – Part 1: Evaluation of tool angles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Thread milling is a method which is increasingly used for machining thread. For this operation, a helical interpolation is required. Furthermore, the thread mill is a tool whose geometry is rather complex.

Improvement of Cutting Forces Modeling Based on Oriented Cutting Tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In order to predict the characteristics of the machined part, such as geometry, surface roughness and fatigue or corrosion resistance, the cutting forces values should be known as precisely as possible.

Burnishing of a non-axisymmetric curved surface with a CNC lathe

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2021
The present study proposes a novel burnishing process called non-axisymmetric curved surface (NACS)-burnishing using a lathe that can machine a non-axisymmetric curved surface, such as a cam for internal combustion engines, with high efficiency.
