ABSTRACT The MT‐ATP6 gene m.8993T>G pathogenic variant has been associated with Leigh syndrome, especially in patients exhibiting a high degree of heteroplasmy. Although patients may present with a wide phenotypic spectrum, characteristic findings include bilateral, symmetric hyperintensities in the basal ganglia and brainstem on brain MRI ...

Analysis of the resistance to 7 antimicrobial agents in 100 strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Objective: To analyse antimicrobial resistance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae to 7 antimicrobial agents and the penicillinase-producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae (PPNG) and tetracycline resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae (TRNG) in Guangzhou during 2019.

Atypical, Yet Not Infrequent, Infections with Neisseria Species
Neisseria species are extremely well-adapted to their mammalian hosts and they display unique phenotypes that account for their ability to thrive within niche-specific conditions. The closely related species N. gonorrhoeae and N.

Detection of recombination in DNA multiple alignments with hidden markov models [PDF]
CConventional phylogenetic tree estimation methods assume that all sites in a DNA multiple alignment have the same evolutionary history. This assumption is violated in data sets from certain bacteria and viruses due to recombination, a process that leads

Cerebrospinal Fluid Metabolome in Central Nervous System Infections: A Study of Diagnostic Accuracy
Objective To assess the diagnostic accuracy of metabolites in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for central nervous system (CNS) infections. Methods Patients were derived from three prospective cohort studies in the Netherlands. All studies included adults suspected of a CNS infection who underwent a diagnostic lumbar puncture.

Autoplaquing in Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]
Irregularly shaped autoplaques were observed on a lawn of two different strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Autoplaquing occurred on gonococcal genetic medium lacking arginine and was noninducible on complete gonococcal genetic medium. The cell density, incubation temperature, and agar base influenced autoplaquing.

ABSTRACT Actinobacillus succinogenes is a ruminal microorganism of biotechnological importance due to its capacity to produce succinic acid at high yields. Despite the scientific interest in this organism, molecular vehicles for the transfer and expression of genetic material are limited compared to the existing demand.
