Multidrug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae failing treatment with ceftriaxone and doxycycline in France, November 2017.

open access: yesEuro surveillance : bulletin Europeen sur les maladies transmissibles = European communicable disease bulletin, 2018
We report a multidrug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae urogenital and pharyngeal infection with ceftriaxone resistance and intermediate resistance to azithromycin in a heterosexual woman in her 20s in France.

Case Report: Unusual Neurological Features of Leigh Syndrome due to m.8993T>G Pathogenic Variant in the MT‐ATP6 Gene

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The MT‐ATP6 gene m.8993T>G pathogenic variant has been associated with Leigh syndrome, especially in patients exhibiting a high degree of heteroplasmy. Although patients may present with a wide phenotypic spectrum, characteristic findings include bilateral, symmetric hyperintensities in the basal ganglia and brainstem on brain MRI ...

Variations in gene organization and DNA uptake signal sequence in the folP region between commensal and pathogenic Neisseria species

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2006
Background Horizontal gene transfer is an important source of genetic variation among Neisseria species and has contributed to the spread of resistance to penicillin and sulfonamide drugs in the pathogen Neisseria meningitidis.

Analysis of the resistance to 7 antimicrobial agents in 100 strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae

open access: yesPifu-xingbing zhenliaoxue zazhi, 2020
Objective: To analyse antimicrobial resistance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae to 7 antimicrobial agents and the penicillinase-producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae (PPNG) and tetracycline resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae (TRNG) in Guangzhou during 2019.

Atypical, Yet Not Infrequent, Infections with Neisseria Species

open access: yesPathogens, 2019
Neisseria species are extremely well-adapted to their mammalian hosts and they display unique phenotypes that account for their ability to thrive within niche-specific conditions. The closely related species N. gonorrhoeae and N.

Detection of recombination in DNA multiple alignments with hidden markov models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
CConventional phylogenetic tree estimation methods assume that all sites in a DNA multiple alignment have the same evolutionary history. This assumption is violated in data sets from certain bacteria and viruses due to recombination, a process that leads

Cerebrospinal Fluid Metabolome in Central Nervous System Infections: A Study of Diagnostic Accuracy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective To assess the diagnostic accuracy of metabolites in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for central nervous system (CNS) infections. Methods Patients were derived from three prospective cohort studies in the Netherlands. All studies included adults suspected of a CNS infection who underwent a diagnostic lumbar puncture.

Autoplaquing in Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1985
Irregularly shaped autoplaques were observed on a lawn of two different strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Autoplaquing occurred on gonococcal genetic medium lacking arginine and was noninducible on complete gonococcal genetic medium. The cell density, incubation temperature, and agar base influenced autoplaquing.

Construction and Characterization of Novel Shuttle Expression Vectors for Actinobacillus succinogenes

open access: yesBiotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Actinobacillus succinogenes is a ruminal microorganism of biotechnological importance due to its capacity to produce succinic acid at high yields. Despite the scientific interest in this organism, molecular vehicles for the transfer and expression of genetic material are limited compared to the existing demand.

Decreased Cephalosporin Susceptibility of Oropharyngeal Neisseria Species in Antibiotic-Using Men-who-have-sex-with-men of Hanoi, Vietnam.

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2019
BACKGROUND Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) infections are a global health burden. Increasing reports of NG resistance to cephalosporins are an imminent threat to public health.
