Many clinical isolates of the human pathogen Neisseria gonorrhoeae contain conjugative plasmids. The host range of these plasmids is limited to Neisseria species, but presence of a tetracycline (tetM) determinant inserted in several of these plasmids is an important cause of the rapid spread of tetracycline resistance.

Composition of the lipopolysaccharide of Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]
Analysis of glycose and fatty acid content of lipopolysaccharide extracted from 38 strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae indicated that glycoses common to colonial types 1 to 5 were glucose, mannose, and galactose, N-acetylneuraminic acid, 2-keto-3-deoxyoctulosonic acid (KDO), glucosamine, and galactosamine were also invariably present.
