DNA methylation assessed by SMRT sequencing is linked to mutations in Neisseria meningitidis isolates [PDF]
The Gram-negative bacterium Neisseria meningitidis features extensive genetic variability. To present, proposed virulence genotypes are also detected in isolates from asymptomatic carriers, indicating more complex mechanisms underlying variable ...

Chemoenzymatic Synthesis of Well‐Defined α(2,8)‐ and α(2,9)‐Linked Oligosialosides
Well‐defined α(2,8)‐ and α(2,9)‐linked oligosialic acids of different lengths can be prepared by employing recombinant bacterial polysialyltransferases in combination with chemically modified CMP‐Neu5Ac derivatives. After transfer, a sialoside is formed bearing an artificial entity, which blocks further glycosylation.

Looking beyond meningococcal B with the 4CMenB vaccine: the Neisseria effect
Infections with Neisseria meningitidis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae have different clinical manifestations, but the bacteria share up to 80–90% genome sequence identity.

Towards an improved serogroup BNeisseria meningitidisvaccine
Meningococcal disease, presenting primarily as septicaemia and meningitis, continues to be a devastating problem around the world. Over the last century, vaccine development has been undertaken in earnest for the prevention of this disease. Polysaccharide vaccines have been available for almost 40 years, yet they are poorly immunogenic in young ...

Binding of the Complement Inhibitor C4bp to Serogroup B Neisseria meningitidis [PDF]
Abstract Neisseria meningitidis (meningococcus) is an important cause of meningitis and sepsis. Currently, there is no effective vaccine against serogroup B meningococcal infection. Host defense against neisseriae requires the complement system (C) as indicated by the fact that individuals deficient in properdin or late C components ...

Molecular epidemiology of meningococcal disease in Northern Ghana [PDF]
Meningococcal disease remains a major public health concern, especially in the African Meningitis Belt where large meningitis epidemics with attack rates of up to 500/100,000 recur every 8-12 years.

Meningococcal Carriage among College Freshmen in Kashmir, North India- A Single Centre Study [PDF]
Introduction: Data on the community carriage of meningococci in developing countries are sparse. Knowledge about the same would help identify demographic and socio-behavioural risk factors, the need for infection control strategies and the composition of
