Phylogenetic Analyses of Two Mitochondrial Metabolic Genes Sampled in Parallel from Angiosperms Find Fundamental Interlocus Incongruence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Plant molecular phylogeneticists have supported an analytical approach of combining loci from different genomes, but the combination of mitochondrial sequences with chloroplast and nuclear sequences is potentially problematic. Low substitution rates in

Transcriptomic and Proteomic Analyses Reveal the Anti–Ovarian Cancer Activity of Lotus Seedpod Polysaccharide on SKOV3 Cells via RIPK1/RIPK3/MLKL Pathway

open access: yesJournal of Food Biochemistry, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
This study aimed to investigate the anti–ovarian cancer activity of lotus seedpod polysaccharide (LSP) on human ovarian cancer SKOV3 cells and the relevant molecular mechanisms. The toxicity of LSP was also assessed in normal mice. The results showed that LSP inhibited SKOV3 proliferation and induced cell apoptosis.

Factors influencing fecundity in experimental crosses of water lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.) cultivars [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2012
Abstract Background Breeding programs for the water lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) are hampered by an inability to account for variation in seed set associated with crosses between different cultivars. We studied seed set in two reciprocal crosses between lotus cultivars (‘Guili’ × ‘Aijiangnan’ and ‘Molingqiuse ...

Immature Seed Endosperm and Embryo Proteomics of the Lotus (Nelumbo Nucifera Gaertn.) by One-Dimensional Gel-Based Tandem Mass Spectrometry and a Comparison with the Mature Endosperm Proteome

open access: yesProteomes, 2015
Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.) seed proteome has been the focus of our studies, and we have recently established the first proteome dataset for its mature seed endosperm. The current study unravels the immature endosperm, as well as the embryo proteome,

Antidiabetic Potential of Five Flower Remedy: A Thai Traditional Remedy With α‐Amylase and α‐Glucosidase Inhibition, Synergistic Interactions, and Mechanistic Insights

open access: yesScientifica, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Five Flower Remedy (FFR), a Thai traditional medicine, has a history of use for various ailments. This study investigated its antidiabetic potential by examining its impact on key carbohydrate‐metabolizing enzymes, α‐amylase, and α‐glucosidase. We explored FFR’s inhibitory effects, synergistic interactions with the standard antidiabetic drug acarbose ...

Response of Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.) to Planting Time and Disbudding [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 2009
Lotus (Nelumbo) is a highly valued plant with a long history for vegetable, ornamental, and medicinal use. Little information is available on the effects of planting time on performance of lotus, especially when grown in containers. The objectives of this study were to find a suitable planting time and to determine best management practices that are of
