Predictors of Neonatal mortality in Neonatal intensive care unit at referral Hospital in Southern Ethiopia: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, 2019
BackgroundThe first one month of life; the neonatal period is the most risky time for child survival. In Ethiopia, neonatal mortality is unacceptably high, and the trend in reduction is slower as compared to infant and child mortality.

Implantable Microarray Patch: Engineering at the Nano and Macro Scale for Sustained Therapeutic Release via Synthetic Biodegradable Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
This review focuses on the application of synthetic biodegradable microarray patches (MAPs) in sustained drug delivery. Compared to conventional MAPs which release drugs into the skin in an immediate manner, these implantable MAPs release drugs into skin microcirculation gradually as the biodegradable polymers degrade, thus offering sustained release ...

Human milk oligosaccharides, milk microbiome and infant gut microbiome modulate neonatal rotavirus infection

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Neonatal rotavirus infections are predominantly asymptomatic. While an association with gastrointestinal symptoms has been described in some settings, factors influencing differences in clinical presentation are not well understood.

Microneedles From Shape‐Preserving Crosslinked Poly(Vinyl Alcohol) Hydrogels: Minimising Interference in Transdermal Proteomics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hydrogel‐forming microneedle patches are developed using shape‐preserving PVA‐PVP hydrogels, with and without chitosan, for minimally invasive transdermal protein biomarker sampling. The optimised patches enable efficient interstitial fluid uptake and proteomic analysis, while minimising interference.

Opioid Exposed Mothers and Infants in Delaware: Clinical and Legal Considerations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Drug use is on the rise in Delaware, as demonstrated by the continued increase in infants born with neonatal abstinence syndrome. Thoughful, evidence based, and coordinated approaches are necessary to impact this problem.

Risk Factors Associated with Neonatal Sepsis: A Case Study at a Specialist Hospital in Ghana

open access: yesTheScientificWorldJournal, 2019
Worldwide, neonatal sepsis accounts for an estimated 26% of under-five deaths, with sub-Saharan Africa having the highest mortality rates. Though worldwide neonatal deaths have decreased by over 3.6 million per year since 2000, neonatal sepsis remains a ...
