WEED CONTROL WITH A COVER CROP (NEONOTONIA WIGHTII) IN MANDARIN ORCHARDS IN GUADELOUPE (FWI)
Acta Horticulturae, 2012Weed management is an important point of the citrus production in tropical wet area. Thus, the use of herbicides regularly sprayed on the whole farm is the most common practice. Such a practice impacts the environment and the production benefits. Introduction of cover crops on these orchards is an interesting alternative.

Abstract l -3-(3′-Carboxy-4′-hydroxyphenyl)alanine (3-carboxytyrosine) constitutes 3% of the seeds of Neonotonia wightii ( Glycine wightii ); it has also been detected in the seeds of 3 species belonging to 2 other genera of the Glycineae. The systematic significance of these findings is discussed.

Seedlings of two tropical legumes, Macroptilium atropurpureum cv. Siratro (siratro) and Neonotonia wightii cv. Cooper (glycine), were grown in nitrogen-free sand culture, and 12 days from germination were exposed to 14 days of salt treatment by addition of 0, 18, 36,72 or 144 mM NaCl to the base culture solution.
