Platelets as mediators of Thromboinflammation in chronic Myeloproliferative Neoplasms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) are stem cell disorders driven by mutations in JAK2, CALR, or MPL genes and characterized by myeloid proliferation and increased blood cell counts.

One thousand patients with essential thrombocythemia: the Florence-CRIMM experience

open access: yesBlood Cancer Journal
We describe 1000 patients with essential thrombocythemia seen at the Center Research and Innovation of Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (CRIMM), Florence, Italy, between 1980 and 2023: median age 59 years (18–95), females 65%, JAK2/CALR/MPL-mutated 66%/19%/4%

Experimental and Clinical Use of the YAG Laser in the Management of Pulmonary Neoplasms

open access: yesAnnals of Surgery, 1984
Animal experiments were performed with evaluation of the use of the neodymium-YAG (yttrium-aluminum-garnet) laser in the trachea, bronchi, and pulmonary parenchyma. Histologic evaluation of incisions into the lung was assessed by multiple sections over a 5-week period and comparisons were made of incisions closed with chronic catgut or coagulated with ...

Insights into PI3K/AKT signaling in B cell development and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Review explores how the phosphoinositide 3‐kinase and protein kinase B pathway shapes B cell development and drives chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a common blood cancer. It examines how signaling levels affect disease progression, addresses treatment challenges, and introduces novel experimental strategies to improve therapies and patient outcomes.

CRISPR/Cas9 mediated knockout of rb1 and rbl1 leads to rapid and penetrant retinoblastoma development in Xenopus tropicalis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Retinoblastoma is a pediatric eye tumor in which bi-allelic inactivation of the Retinoblastoma 1 (RB1) gene is the initiating genetic lesion. Although recently curative rates of retinoblastoma have increased, there are at this time no molecular targeted ...

Experimentally Produced Neoplasms in the Frog.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1930
It has been known that the frog egg on the stage of the second polar spindle-metaphase passes into a resting period, awaiting fertilization. Under natural conditions this lasts for only a few hours, but can be delayed up to 3 days without impairing perceptibly the vigor of the egg. After a further delay of 2 days, however, the eggs are dead.

Interaction vesicles as emerging mediators of host‐pathogen molecular crosstalk and their implications for infection dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...

CircRNAs Are Here to Stay: A Perspective on the MLL Recombinome

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2019
Chromosomal translocations harbored by cancer genomes are important oncogenic drivers. In MLL rearranged acute leukemia (MLLre) MLL/KMT2A fuses with over 90 partner genes.
